As the second round of the 2024 NFL Draft gets underway on Friday, Michigan Wolverines linebacker Junior Colson will be waiting by his phone for the Day 2 call. Colson is projected to go in the second or third round of the draft after spending three years at Michigan. He had 101 total tackles in 2022 and 95 in 2023. He recorded 2.5 sacks and five defended passes in his collegiate career.

Colson measured 6-foot-2 and 238 pounds at the Combine. His build — and his ability to use his strength to take down ball-carriers — provide him with a solidly high floor at the next level. NFL.com’s Lance Zierlein breaks down Colson’s scouting report:
Inside linebacker with an excellent combination of size and strength to take on blocks and patrol the action from the second level. Colson’s upper-body strength and body control stand out when battling blocks or finishing tackles. He has adequate sideline-to-sideline range but needs to play with faster recognition to keep from getting trapped by climbing blocks. He doesn’t play with a trigger-happy, downhill mindset, so he misses out on playmaking opportunities. Colson is a tough guy with good stopping power and can handle himself in coverage.

The Athletic’s Dane Brugler sends Colson to the Chargers to reunite with head coach Jim Harbaugh at No. 37 overall. In his pre-draft mock, Field Yates sent Colson to the Tennessee Titans at No. 70 overall. Zierlein’s mock sees him heading to the Packers at No. 41 overall.
