The Chicago Bears took quarterback Caleb Williams with the No. 1 overall pick and now they’ve added a dynamic weapon to help him in his rookie season by taking Washington wide receiver Rome Odunze with the No. 9 pick. Odunze was considered among the best receivers in the class and now goes to a situation where he will likely be heavily involved from the first snap.
Bears WR Rome Odunze fantasy football outlook
Odunze will have a great quarterback throwing him the ball in an offense that will air it out. Offensive coordinator Shane Waldron ran the ball more than just one team last season when he oversaw the Seahawks, so expect the Bears to call a lot of passes. Even with a loaded skill group, Odunze should make enough plays to spark interest in fantasy football circles. He is probably a WR3 at the moment with WR2 upside in the event the receivers ahead of him miss time.
Rome Odunze’s supporting cast
The Bears were busy in the offseason, trading for Keenan Allen to pair with D.J. Moore and Cole Kmet. They also signed D’Andre Swift in free agency as a running back who gets involved in the passing game. There’s going to a battle for targets, but Odunze has something these other wide receivers do not; the ability to pull down 50-50 balls at will. He’s likely going to be the team’s primary deep threat while eventually operating more in the intermediate part of the field.
Where should Rome Odunze rank among WRs in fantasy football?
I would rank Odunze in the WR3 category in fantasy football, only because there’s two established players ahead of him. Allen has been prone to injuries in recent seasons, while Swift and Moore will take some time to adjust to Williams. It’s going to be a process for this offense but there’s certainly a path to him being a WR2.
