The Indianapolis Colts have officially selected Texas wide receiver Adonai Mitchell with the No. 52 overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft. The Longhorn wideout will provide even more receiver depth for the Colts offense.

Mitchell spent the first two seasons of his college career at Georgia before transferring to Texas for the 2023 season. He ended up forming a formidable 1-2 punch with Xavier Worthy in the Longhorns’ run to the College Football Playoff, earning Big 12 Offensive Newcomer of the Year honors with 55 receptions for 845 yards and 11 touchdowns.

There was some thought of him potentially being taken towards the end of the first round, but he ended up falling to Indy in the back half of the second.

Colts WR Adonai Mitchell fantasy football outlook

Mitchell is in an interesting spot as he’s joining a Colts offense that is suddenly loaded with plenty of young talent at the skill positions. Second-year quarterback Anthony Richardson will be operating the controls and it will be interesting to see how he’s able to spread to wealth around in the offense.

Adonai Mitchell’s supporting cast

Mitchell is joining a talented receiver room headed up by Michael Pittman Jr., who is coming off a 1,000-yard season and just signed a new three-year deal with the franchise. Josh Downs and Alec Pierce are also back for the Colts, so Mitchell will have some competition for targets as a rookie.

Where should Adonai Mitchell rank among WRs in fantasy football?

The presence of Pittman, Downs, and Pierce depresses the fantasy value of Mitchell right out the gate, but he’s still worth a late-round selection in redraft leagues for his upside. That’s especially true in dynasty/keeper leagues and I’d eye him in the second round of those drafts.
