The first round of the 2024 NFL Draft was remarkably heavy on the offense. There were six quarterbacks selected in the first 12 picks of the draft, setting a record for most quarterbacks within fewest picks ever selected, and seven wide receivers drafted in the first round, tying a record set in 2004. While six rounds of the draft still remain, DraftKings Sportsbook has released early odds for the 2024 Offensive Rookie of the Year award. We break down some favorites and sleepers to earn the award.
2024 NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year odds
Favorites
Bears QB Caleb Williams comes in at +200 and Cardinals WR Marvin Harrison Jr. enters at +600 to win OROY. Both of these players enter into struggling franchises, and have the potential to make a huge material difference in the outcomes of their teams’ seasons — if it pans out how the teams hope.
Commanders quarterback Jayden Daniels follows at +650 and finds himself in a similar situation — while these were all top-five picks, there is plenty of work to do to turn their teams around. However, we saw 2023 OROY winner CJ Stroud succeed with the Texans last year. A combination of new coaches and new priorities could send any of these favorites to the top of the awards list at the end of 2024.
Sleepers
Running back Jonathon Brooks has yet to be drafted and comes in at +5000 for OROY, but if he ends up with the Cowboys — a team that many mocks have sent him to — he has the potential to be a full-time starter and the RB1 for a high-profile franchise. Those who watched Brooks in college know he has the potential to absolutely explode at the next level.
Wide receiver Xavier Worthy saw his chances skyrocket as he was paired with Patrick Mahomes late in the first round, and comes in at +1600. He knows his QB will bring out the best in him. Michigan WR Roman Wilson has yet to be drafted, but is another rookie that could end up being a standout depending on his Day 2 landing spot. He is installed at +8000.
Final Thoughts
Quarterbacks and wide receivers have dominated the OROY over the past five years, but that doesn’t necessarily mean that there isn’t room for running backs. However, if a top-drafted quarterback is able to lead, say, the Bears, Commanders, or Patriots to the playoffs in their rookie year, we will more than likely see that QB awarded.
If that doesn’t happen for those quarterbacks, we should start looking Harrison’s way — the flashy, speedy receiver will be a quick success at the next level. Worthy could also quickly rise in the ranks given the Chiefs’ shortcomings at the WR position last year.
