By: Zach Thompson

Wednesday is wall-to-wall baseball with games throughout the day as most teams wrap up their first series of the week. There are some great afternoon matchups and slate, but the main featured fantasy baseball slate gets underway at 7:05 p.m. ET on DraftKings and includes the seven games scheduled to take place under the lights. Four of the seven Wednesday night games are divisional contests, and the final game of the night features the Padres and Rockies meeting at Coors Field, which always makes offensive options especially interesting.

Let’s dive right in and take a look at the best DFS options from Wednesday night’s seven-game slate.

PITCHER

Stud

Reynaldo Lopez, Atlanta Braves vs. Miami Marlins ($9,200) – Lopez has impressed in his first three starts of the season, going 2-0 with a 0.50 ERA, 2.16 FIP and 18 strikeouts in 18 innings. He has produced 24.1 DKFP per start and shut down the Mets and Astros for over 25 DKFP in each of his last two outings. Lopez came into the season with low expectations after starting just one game in the past two seasons and bouncing around from the White Sox to the Angels to the Guardians. He has been much better than anticipated and has locked down a spot in the Braves rotation. After being shut out in the first two games of this series, the Marlins are hitting just .217 as a team and rank in the bottom five in the MLB in team batting average, ISO, wOBA and wRC+. It’s a great matchup for Lopez to continue his strong start, and he should get plenty of run support from the Braves’ potent lineup that will be facing Sixto Sanchez ($7,000) as the opener for a Marlins’ bullpen day.

Value

Jameson Taillon, Chicago Cubs vs. Houston Astros ($7,500) – Taillon got a late start to the season after a back issue, but he looked strong in his season debut last Friday against the Marlins. Taillon allowed just one run on three hits in five innings while racking up four strikeouts and 19.5 DKFP. In another home start this Wednesday, he’ll face the Astros, who have stumbled to a 7-17 start in April. Taillon will look to hand them their seventh loss in their last eight games after the Cubs took the series opener on Tuesday, 7-2. Taillon had an up-and-down year last year, but he found his footing after the All-Star break and looks to be in a much better spot to start 2024. He’s a solid play under $8,000 with a good shot at a win as he opposes Astros’ rookie Spencer Arrighetti ($6,500), who has an 11.57 ERA in his seven innings this season.

INFIELD

Stud

Bobby Witt Jr., Kansas City Royals vs. Toronto Blue Jays ($6,300) – Witt’s power and speed combo always gives him a high ceiling, and he has started the season red-hot for the Royals. He already has four homers and five stolen bases while hitting .316 with a .409 wOBA. After picking up three hits and 20 DKFP on Tuesday, Witt has gone 16-for-50 (.320) with two of those homers and three stolen bases over his last 12 games, averaging an impressive 10.3 DKFP per game over that stretch. He has the potential to post a huge number in any matchup and has been especially good at home and against righties, putting him on the strong side of both splits in his matchup with Yariel Rodriguez ($8,000).

Stud

Michael Busch, Chicago Cubs vs. Houston Astros ($4,500) – Busch started the year as a great value play at 1B, and I’ve continued to plug him into my picks and lineup while his salary has climbed. I still like him at 1B at this price as he faces Arrighetti and the Astros on Wednesday. Arighetti has let lefties like Busch go 5-for-14 (.357) against him in his limited sample size. Over his last 10 games, Busch has five homers while going 12-for-37 (.324) with a .493 wOBA. He did have a rough game on Tuesday, going 0-for-4 with three strikeouts, but his power potential in this matchup makes him a strong bounce-back option.

Value

Mauricio Dubon, Houston Astros at Chicago Cubs ($2,800) – Dubon has eligibility in the OF and at 3B and had started nine of Houston’s last 11 games before getting Sunday and Tuesday off. Dubon has been one of the Astros’ best hitters to start the season, which tells you a lot about their start. He is hitting .294 in his 18 games with one home run, one stolen base and a .326 wOBA. Dubon had at least nine DKFP in four of five games before going 0-for-4 on Saturday, and the Astros will likely get him back in the mix against Taillon and the Cubs on Wednesday night. If he’s in the lineup, he brings a high ceiling at the hot corner for under $3,000.

Value

Nicky Lopez, Chicago White Sox at Minnesota Twins ($2,100) – The White Sox lineup has been a mess this season, but Lopez has been one fantasy-relevant bargain option that has emerged. The 29-year-old 2B is barely priced over the minimum salary but has typically been batting leadoff for Chicago, resulting in plenty of at-bats and opportunities. He has hit safely in six of his last seven games, going 7-for-21 (.333) with a 36.8% hard-hit rate, per Statcast. Lopez doesn’t have an extra-base hit yet this season and is 0-for-4 in stolen base attempts, but his regular opportunities at the top of the lineup should give him a high floor as a punt play who does bring some upside if he continues to get on base.

OUTFIELD

Stud

Fernando Tatis Jr., San Diego Padres at Colorado Rockies ($6,100) – Tatis and the Padres have split the first two games of their trip to Coors Field and have surprisingly only managed seven total runs in the first two games. On Wednesday night, they’ll face lefty Ty Blach ($5,000), who is the cheapest pitcher on the slate. While he did have four hitless innings in his last Triple-A start, Blach was hammered last season, posting a 5.54 ERA, 5.63 FIP and 1.64 WHIP. Tatis hasn’t had much success against lefties this season, but last year he hit .305 with a .391 wOBA against southpaws, so his low split is likely just due to the small sample size. On the season, Tatis is hitting .270 with six homers and a .373 wOBA. He had two hits on Tuesday and has three multi-hit performances over his last 11 games. In his last seven games, he has a gaudy 81% hard-hit rate, which indicates he’s crushing the ball even when he is getting out. He should be due for some positive regression and brings a sky-high ceiling in the Mile High City this Wednesday.

Stud

Julio Rodriguez, Seattle Mariners at Texas Rangers ($5,000) – Julio finally went yard for the first time this season on Tuesday night to power the Mariners to a 4-0 win in Texas. The 23-year-old started the season a little slow once again this year, but he has turned things around in a big way over the last week, going 14-for-31 (.452) with four stolen bases and an average of 14.1 DKFP over his last seven games. When he’s hot, Rodriguez can single-handedly fuel the Mariners lineup, and he’s starting to see the ball very well coming into this favorable matchup with veteran Jon Gray ($8,300).

Value

Daulton Varsho, Toronto Blue Jays at Kansas City Royals ($3,500) – Varsho doesn’t have catcher eligibility anymore, but he still makes a ton of sense for fantasy lineups given his hot start to the season for the Blue Jays. After a disappointing first year in Toronto, Varsho has started this season with six home runs and three stolen bases in his first 24 games. He has hit .250 with a .387 wOBA overall this season, and his hard-hit rate has jumped from 36% last year to 41.2%, per Statcast. Varsho has hit safely in six of his last seven games with four doubles and four homers in that span.

Value

Sean Bouchard, Colorado Rockies vs. San Diego Padres ($3,100) – When Kris Bryant (back) landed on IL, the Rockies recalled Bouchard, who was hitting .315 with a .449 wOBA in his first 14 games at Triple-A. Bouchard jumped right into the corner outfield mix and has hit safely in all five of his games this season. Two of his five hits have been doubles, and the 27-year-old also added a stolen base on Tuesday to boost his average to 6.8 DKFP per game. Bouchard gets a good matchup against knuckleballer Matt Waldron ($6,800) at Coors on Wednesday, so he’s a solid play with good upside at barely over $3,000.
