Michigan forward Tarris Reed announced Wednesday that his next destination will be the national champion UConn Huskies. The Wolverines struggled throughout the 2023-24 season and failed to reach the NCAA Tournament, but Reed led the team in rebounds with 7.2 per game. UConn’s strategy for their past two title-winning seasons has relied heavily on having multiple big men, and Reed’s 6-foot-10 stature fits the bill for their dominant presence in the paint.

Reed spent two years in Ann Arbor and has two remaining years of eligibility. He averaged 9.0 points and 1.4 blocks per game for Michigan last season. UConn is undergoing a rebuilding process as they prepare to lose their five starters from this year’s championship team to the NBA Draft — Stephon Castle, Tristen Newton, Donovan Clingan, Cam Spencer and Alex Karaban. Hassan Diarra could also head to the NBA. Reed’s experience and size will work in his favor under head coach Dan Hurley.

Reed will play alongside senior Samson Johnson in the 2024-25 season.
