The PGA TOUR takes a short trip from Augusta, Georgia to Hilton Head, South Carolina this week for the RBC Heritage. Harbour Town Golf Links will be the host course, and measures as a 7,213-yard par 71, featuring Poa Trivialis overseeded greens.
We have another Signature Event on the schedule, so there will be a smaller field consisting of 69 golfers and no cut.
Below I have outlined my two favorite bets for the week.
Wyndham Clark to win (+2800)
I almost did a double take when I saw this 28/1 number on Clark. How is it possible that someone who’s won three times on the PGA TOUR since last June is 10 points longer on the odds board than the likes of Tommy Fleetwood (zero career wins), Si Woo Kim (four-career wins) and Cameron Young (zero career wins)?
I get that Clark has had a bit of a rough couple of weeks, but his poor finish in Houston was a result of a back injury, while his missed cut at Augusta last week was his first career-start at the Masters. I think we can cut the man a break.
He’s just over a month removed from runner-up finishes at THE PLAYERS and the Arnold Palmer, and just two months removed from his win at Pebble Beach. Clark clearly has a knack for showing up at these Signature Events, because his other two wins came last year at the Wells Fargo Championship and U.S. Open.
If you want to look at the numbers, you’ll see that only Scottie Scheffler and Xander Schauffele have gained more Total Strokes than Clark over the past 24 rounds. This is a prime bounceback spot for the No. 5 player in the world.
Matthieu Pavon to win (+7000)
Taking a chance on a longshot here, Pavon makes a lot of sense at 70/1 this week. He’s already won on the PGA TOUR this season at a very difficult Torrey Pines track, before following that up with an impressive solo-third at Pebble Beach, which bares some similarities to Harbour Town. Another course similar to Harbour Town is Waialae Country Club in Hawaii, which is home to the Sony Open — an event Pavon finished T7 at this year.
Overall, the Frenchman has a four combined top-10s in 2024 on both the PGA and DP World Tours, and is coming off a T12 last week at Augusta in his first-career Masters appearance. This guy is for real.
Pavon does some basic things very well that are critical to success at Harbour Town. He is extremely accurate off the tee, hits a ton of greens in regulation, and is a phenomenal putter. As a matter of fact, Pavon ranks No. 1 in this field in SG: Putting over the past 30 rounds.
There are some heavy hitters in the field this week, but Pavon has already shown on multiple occasions this year that he can hang with them. We are getting a great number in this spot, especially in such a condensed field.
