Major League Baseball gets another work week underway on Monday with a solid nine-game fantasy baseball slate, that begins at 7:07 p.m. ET. Just two of the games are divisional contests while three are interleague matchups. Most teams are about 16 games into the season, and we’re starting to get a good idea of who can contend, who’s hot and who’s not. Current form is just one factor to consider when building lineups, but most players now have a decent sample size from regular season games to analyze. Teams are also starting to make some call-ups, which is always a good way to grab value with young players who are underpriced and ready to break through.

SP Joe Ross, Milwaukee Brewers vs. San Diego Padres, $7,300
I think we can call it a comeback. Ross hadn’t pitched in the majors since 2021 when his season was cut short by Tommy John surgery. He worked in the minors with the Giants last year before signing with the Brewers this offseason. The 30-year-old righty gave up six runs in 12 innings in Spring Training but stacked up 17 strikeouts and finished with an impressive eight-strikeout, five-inning showing against the Cubs. He has made two starts with the Brew Crew this season and produced double-digit DKFP in both contests. He had control issues against the Twins, but looked sharp last Tuesday in Cincinnati. He held a good Reds offense to just three runs in 6 1⁄3 innings while striking out seven to earn 24.7 DKFP. In his 10 MLB innings this season, he has 10 strikeouts, showing solid upside as he faces the Padres at home on Monday.
SS Masyn Winn, St. Louis Cardinals at Oakland Athletics, $2,500
After struggling in his first taste of the big leagues last season, Winn has looked much more comfortable thus far in 2024. He hit just .172 in 37 games last season but has started this season hitting .349 (15-for-45) with a double, two triples and a .356 wOBA to go with a pair of stolen bases and five runs scored. Winn had two hits in each of his two games against Arizona before getting an off-day on Sunday. He should be back in the lineup on Monday against Ross Stripling ($6,000) as the Cardinals start their series in Oakland. Over his last five games, Winn has produced at least seven DKFP four times and is averaging 7.9 DKFP per game over his past eight contests. The 22-year-old is a strong bargain play at shortstop, who is proving that he’s ready to contribute for the Cardinals and fantasy lineups this season.
OF Jonatan Clase, Seattle Mariners vs. Cincinnati Reds, $2,000
Grossman will be playing career game No. 1,136 on Monday, while Clase will be playing MLB game No. 1. He is expected to be called up to replace Dominic Canzone (shoulder), who suffered an AC joint sprain on Sunday. If Clase is called up and immediately inserted into the lineup, he’ll be a great play at the minimum salary of $2,000 and bring a very high ceiling. Clase is just 21 years old and was ranked as the team’s No. 10 prospect by MLB Pipeline coming into the season. The switch-hitter from the Dominican brings outstanding speed and stole 55 and 79 bases over the last two seasons in the minors. He isn’t just a speedster, though, and brings solid power potential as well. In 2022, he had 13 homers, and last year he smashed 20 homers in 129 games. In Triple-A with the Tacoma Rainiers, he went 14-for-45 (.311) in 12 games with four doubles, two triples and two home runs for a .427 wOBA and .311 ISO while also adding three stolen bases. Clase hit .321 with three stolen bases in Spring Training as well, so he looks ready to make the jump to the major league level. Clase is a great way to get a high ceiling on Monday while also saving plenty of salary cap space to spend on other stars.
