We have some really awesome Bowl games to watch around the Holidays, but this isn’t one of them. Both teams are slammed with opt outs, but we still have an angle. Here’s how I’m betting the Sun Bowl on DraftKings Sportsbook, which takes place on Friday, December 29 in Texas.

Notre Dame vs. Oregon State (Friday December 29, 2:00 pm ET)
UNDER 44.5 (-110) — 1.5-units
I snagged this one at 44.5 a couple weeks back, and a few days later ND starting QB Sam Hartman opted out of the game. That was the likely scenario, but the total still dropped a couple points. I’m fine playing the current number for 1-unit all the way down to 40.
While Hartman is the big name to opt out, what could have been a very exciting game is more about who isn’t playing. Not only are the Irish without a starting QB, but the Beavers will be operating with QB3 here — DJ Uiagalelei is in the portal, and the backup, Aidan Chiles, has already moved on. In addition, Oregon State will also be without a couple of key skill position players (WR2 and likely RB1), along with two of its top defensive players.
The Irish have an even more noteworthy list of absences, and it’s a ton on the offensive side of the ball. Outside of Hartman, one of the best rushers in the nation, Audric Estime, will miss the game to prepare for the NFL. The Irish will also be without their top-three WR, top-two TE and more than half of the starting offensive line.
In a game where these two teams pride themselves on defense to begin with, we should be in for a real grinder given the amount of reserves we’re going to see on offense.
