Jaguars RB Travis Etienne injury: What status means for Week 14 vs. Browns

Game status: Travis Etienne is ACTIVE for Sunday’s game.

Game day update: Travis Etienne is expected to play on Sunday, per Adam Schefter.

The Jacksonville Jaguars travel to Cleveland to take on the Browns in Week 14. With Christian Kirk and Trevor Lawrence injured in last week’s Monday Night Football loss to the Cincinnati Bengals, all eyes move to the injury status of RB Travis Etienne.

Luckily for the Jags faithful, Etienne is expected to play per ESPN’s Adam Schefter. He suffered a rib injury Week 12 against the Texans and had a questionable tag coming into Week 14. Etienne was a limited participant in practice this week.

Fantasy football analysis

Etienne has been a consistent runner and pass-catcher for the Jaguars offense all season. Despite only having one game over 100+ rushing yards, he remains a top-five fantasy option out of the backfield. Two factors benefit him coming into Sunday’s contest.

With Lawrence being a game-time decision, if back up C.J. Beathard takes snaps, expect a run oriented offense for Jacksonville. The Browns defense has allowed a RB touchdown in four straight contests, dating back to Week 10 vs. the Ravens.

A second factor that helps his fantasy cause are the projected weather conditions in Cleveland come Sunday afternoon. If it becomes a rain and snow filled type of contest, Etienne is likely to see more touches on the ground.

NFL DFS analysis

The Browns are steady against the pass, but their defense has allowed 7 rushing touchdowns to opposing RBs. Etienne is a crafty player and Doug Pederson likes to get him involved in the passing game as well. I’d lean on Etienne to have multiple opportunities to score.

Betting analysis

The Jaguars are currently +120 underdogs with the total set at 34 points, according Draftkings Sportsbook. Last week Etienne had a questionable designation and ultimately played. It seems to be a week-to-week injury their medical staff has control over. With poor weather expected at FirstEnergy Stadium, his +140 odds as Anytime TD scorer indicate there’s a good chance he finds the endzone.
