SMU Mustangs quarterback Preston Stone had to be carted off the field after suffering a leg injury in the second quarter of today’s season finale against the Navy Midshipmen. The Mustangs currently hold a commanding 52-14 lead at halftime and are well on their way to clinching a spot in next Saturday’s AAC Championship Game against Tulane.

This is a brutal turn of events for both Stone and SMU, who are destined to visit Tulane for the AAC title game next weekend with a possible New Year’s Six bowl berth on the line. The third-year QB has been great in his first year as the starter for the Mustangs, and the numbers he put up in the first half prior to the injury put him over 3,000 yards for the year with 28 touchdowns to just six interceptions.

Backup Kevin Jennings has stepped up in his place and will most likely start in next week’s league title game if Stone’s injury is severe.
