One of the biggest crab in a bucket rivalries in college football is on for Thanksgiving night as the Ole Miss Rebels head to Starkville to meet the Mississippi State Bulldogs for the 120th edition of the Egg Bowl. This Magnolia State showdown will kick off at 7:30 p.m. ET this evening and will air on ESPN.

Ole Miss (9-2, 5-2 SEC) enters this rivalry showdown fresh off a 35-3 drubbing of Louisiana Monroe last Saturday. The Rebels had somewhat of a sleepy start in the first half of this matchup, but poured on three touchdowns in the third quarter to put the game to bed. Jaxson Dart went 24-31 for 310 yards and three touchdowns in the win and despite head coach Lane Kiffin declaring that he’s coming back next year, the QB is still undecided.

Mississippi State (5-6, 1-6 SEC) is trying to reach bowl eligibility here and is coming off a 41-20 victory over Southern Miss last Saturday. That, of course, was the Bulldogs’ first game following the firing of head coach Zach Arnett and they gradually pulled away from the Golden Eagles in the contest. Starting quarterback Will Rogers returned after missing over a month with a shoulder injury, going 12-27 for 144 yards and two touchdowns.

History has taught us to expect the unexpected in the Egg Bowl, but I think this year’s game ends up being pretty chalky. Ole Miss is on the verge of its second 10-win season in three years, a feat the program hasn’t accomplished since the early 1960’s. The Rebel offense has rolled against non-Alabama/Georgia opponents this season and I think Dart and company light up a Mississippi State team that is probably ready for the offseason. This doesn’t mean that the usual Egg Bowl shenanigans won’t happen, but I’ll take the visitors to cover and bring the trophy back to Oxford.
