With one week left in the college football regular season, we take a look at which teams will be eligible to participate in a bowl game in 2023.
There are 41 bowl games scheduled, not including the College Football Playoff national championship game, meaning 82 spots are available for the 133 FBS teams. As of now there are 68 bowl-eligible teams with at least six wins, with another 24 teams having five wins who would become eligible with a victory next weekend.
James Madison at 10-1 is ineligible as of now because of their ongoing transition to the FBS level. If there are not enough bowl teams, JMU will be allowed to accept a spot if offered.
If there are not 82 teams with a record of .500 or better, the latest Academic Progress Rate (APR) score of teams that are 5-7 will be used to determine who can accept a bowl bid. Of teams with four (5-7 with a win next week) or five wins (needs APR if they lose next week), the order of acceptance would be as follows based on 2021-22 APR scores:
