The Wake Forest Demon Deacons face their former quarterback, Sam Hartman, in South Bend on Saturday. Kickoff against the Notre Dame Fighting Irish is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. ET, and Michael Kern will be the starting quarterback for Wake Forest.
Kern is coming in to replace Mitch Griffis, who was the starter for most of the season. When the Demon Deacons faced Virginia Tech in mid-October, Griffis was benched and Kern went into the game, but he sustained a shoulder injury that kept him out for several weeks.
Last week, Wake Forest faced NC State, and once again, Kern replaced Griffis partway through the game. Now, Kern will get his first start, and head coach Dave Clawson stated that Kern will be the starter, barring injury, for the final two games of the season. Kern has passed for 303 yards, one touchdown, and one interception this season.
At 4-6, the Demon Deacons could still become bowl eligible, but they enter Notre Dame Stadium as 24.5-point underdogs.
