The Clemson Tigers will host the No. 15 Notre Dame Fighting Irish in a pseudo-ACC matchup at noon ET this afternoon and the status of running back Will Shipley is up in the air ahead of kickoff. Shipley suffered a concussion during the second quarter of last week’s 24-17 loss at NC State and was sorely missed as the Tiger offense sputtered. Head coach Dabo Swinney said earlier in the week that the junior tailback is considered day-to-day.
Shipley’s injury is another tough blow to a Clemson team that is flirting with missing a bowl game for the first time since 2004. Shipley’s production has tailed off somewhat from last year but has still been the engine of the offense, totaling 512 rushing yards, 120 receiving yards, and five total touchdowns heading into today’s game. Fellow junior Phil Mafah will handle the carries should Shipley miss this contest.
