We are heading into Week 8 of the NFL season. The trade deadline looms, but moves are likely to come after this week and by the deadline on Tuesday, October 31. Despite dealing with a little tear in his oblique, San Francisco 49ers RB Christian McCaffrey still leads the position going into this week. He is followed by Raheem Mostert, Travis Etienne Jr., Kyren Williams and Zack Moss.
Here is how we are approaching the RB position in Week 8.
Injury news to monitor
Chicago Bears RB Roschon Johnson remains in the concussion protocol but is expected to play this week. Carolina Panthers RB Miles Sanders missed his team’s last week but is coming off a bye week. Green Bay Packers RB Aaron Jones looked like he was on a snap count from his lack of usage as he heals from a hamstring injury.
David Montgomery will look to return for the Detroit Lions this week after missing Week 7 due to a rib injury. Cleveland Browns RB Jerome Ford is expected to miss this week with an ankle injury, elevating Kareem Hunt to a likely starter role for a game.
Bijan Robinson virally (pun intended) was very limited in action due to a headache. Arthur Smith did say ahead of the game that they wanted to limit Robinson, but theoretically, he should be back to his normal workload this week.
Streaming options for Week 8
The Dallas Cowboys defense allows the seventh-fewest fantasy points per game to opposing running backs. Darrell Henderson and Royce Freeman will likely split backfield work again. The Los Angeles Rams defense should be able to keep the game close enough to give the running backs enough time to be relevant. Between the two, I give the edge to Foreman, but Henderson did find the endzone last week.
It’s been tough to rely on Dameon Pierce, but this should be a big week for him. He will face the Carolina Panthers defense that allows the second-most fantasy points per game to running backs.
