The Golden State Warriors will host the Phoenix Suns on opening night in the NBA on Tuesday, October 24. Tipoff from Chase Center is set for 10 p.m. ET and will air on TNT. The Suns were 3-1 against the Warriors last season.
Phoenix made one of the biggest moves in the offseason as they traded Chris Paul, Landry Shamet, and draft assets for Bradley Beal from the Washington Wizards. They also traded away Deandre Ayton in a deal that got them Just Nurkic as a replacement. In Washington, Beal averaged 23.3 points, 5.4 assists, 3.9 rebounds, and 2.9 turnovers per game. With Devin Booker and Kevin Durant back as Phoenix’s top stars, the Suns are still one of the best teams in the NBA. Their season ended in the Western Conference semifinals last season at the hands of the Denver Nuggets. They need some guys on their bench to step up this season as depth is their biggest question mark heading into the season.
It was another solid year for the Warriors last season. Their season ended in the Western Conference semifinals as well as they lost to the Los Angeles Lakers. Their one big move in the offseason was trading away Jordan Poole, Patrick Baldwin, and Ryan Rollins for Chris Paul. In Phoenix last year, Paul averaged 13.9 points, 8.9 assists, 4.3 rebounds, and 1.9 turnovers per game. The thought is that he will be the perfect point guard to set guys like Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson up. Paul is not a scorer, so he should fit into this offense perfectly. Outside of the Paul trade, there weren’t any major changes for the Warriors. Draymond Green signed a four-year, $100 million contract to remain in Golden State. It feels like we are in the last few years of the Warriors dynasty, so let’s see if this core can add a few more rings.
