Fantasy managers should have their rosters at full strength with no teams on bye during Week 8. However, if you’re one of the unfortunate managers who have been impacted by significant injuries, all hope is not lost. There are more than a few valuable additions to target off the waiver, thanks to some big performances during last week’s slate of games.
Here are the best names to pick up off waivers ahead of Week 8.
Week 8 Fantasy football waiver wire pickups
Curtis Samuel, WR, Washington Commanders
Rostership: 48.6% ESPN
Samuel finally cooled off for 6.5 PPR fantasy points in Week 7 after averaging 16.9 fantasy points over the previous three weeks. Fantasy managers shouldn’t let that scare them, as Samuel has established himself as a reliable target in Washington’s offense, with Sam Howell liable to spread the ball around at will.
He has an excellent bounce-back matchup with the Philadelphia Eagles in Week 8, who are allowing the second-most fantasy points to receivers (27.5 PPG).
Kareem Hunt, RB, Cleveland Browns
Rostership: 47.0% ESPN
Hunt has PPR fantasy performances of 16.1 and 15.1 points respectively over the last two weeks, and it appears he could be elevated into an RB1 role in the short term. Jerome Ford suffered an ankle injury in the fourth quarter and never returned to the game after he was ruled questionable to return.
If Ford should miss time, which is increasingly appearing likely, then Hunt should be a top grab off the waiver wire as the Browns’ de-factor RB1.
Rashee Rice, WR, Kansas City Chiefs
Rostership: 46.7% ESPN
Rice caught five of his six targets for 60 receiving yards in Week 7 and found the end zone for his third receiving touchdown of the season. The latter came off a nice six-yard pass from Patrick Mahomes, and with five of his seven games this season ending in double-digit fantasy scoring, it’s clear the rookie has become a reliable target in Andy Reid’s offense. Rice has an excellent opportunity to climb into the WR2 spot, behind only Travis Kelce, of course.
D’Onta Foreman, RB, Chicago Bears
Rostership: 42.8% ESPN
Perhaps it was because he faced an uninspired Las Vegas Raiders defense, but nonetheless, Foreman should be a hot commodity this week after logging 33.0 PPR fantasy points in Week 7. Foreman had 16 carries for 89 yards and two rushing touchdowns as he once again led the backfield for Chicago.
Once fighting for playing time, after this performance, Foreman figures to have a significant role in Week 8 and moving forward.
