Final update: Cook and the running game were leaned on more in the second half, as Cook saw nine rushing attempts compared to the five he had in the first half. He ended up rushing for 71 yards on 14 total carries, while Murray had 12 carries for 45 yards, including the work near the goal line.
Halftime update: Cook has looked good when getting the ball and has five carries for 37 yards, while Murray has three carries for 17 yards. The fact that Cook only has five touches is odd, as he’s been one of the few bright spots on an offense that was unable to score in the first half.
Latavius Murray got the start at running back over James Cook on Sunday Night Football as the Bills take on the Giants. Cook did get a carry on the second series, but Murray appears to be getting a big portion of the snaps early on. This may be related to Cook’s trouble in pass blocking, but we’ll keep an eye on how the backfield breaks down on Sunday night.
Last week Cook had 37 snaps to Murray’s 11 and Damien Harris’ 11. On the season, Murray has 19 rushing attempts, 83 yards and two rushing touchdowns, while catching 7-of-8 targets for 49 yards.
