Update, Oct. 13 — Herbert has now been placed on I.R. with his high-ankle sprain. Moving forward we should see D’Onta Foreman get the lead work in Week 6, but as soon as Roschon Johnson can return from his concussion, he should be able to take that role back while Herbert is out. Herbert will need to miss four games before being able to return from I.R.

Update, Oct. 13 — Herbert was unable to practice with his ankle injury and was declared out for Week 6. The team hasn’t put him on I.R. as of yet, so he still has a shot to come back in the next few weeks. Roschon Johnson remains out with a concussion, so D’Onta Foreman should be the lead back against the Vikings.

Update, Oct. 12 — Herbert did not practice again on Thursday, while Roschon Johnson remained out with a concussion. Both players are looking unlikely to play at this point.

Update, Oct. 11 — Herbert did not practice on Wednesday. This was expected since reports have him likely out with a high-ankle sprain. Roschon Johnson also didn’t practice due to a concussion. D’Onta Foreman was the only healthy back on Wednesday who is worth playing in fantasy this week.

Chicago Bears running back Khalil Herbert attempted to play through an ankle injury in the team’s Week 5 win over the Washington Commanders, and that additional work might’ve further damaged what is now being called a high ankle sprain.

After a slow start to the 2023 season where he was expected to take on a bigger role in this offense, Herbert had put together strong performances in back-to-back games before the injury. He’s likely to miss some time, although the exact amount will only be known once we get word on how severe the sprain is. Some players can come back within a few weeks, while others might miss more than a month.

With Herbert set to be sidelined, Roschon Johnson and Travis Homer appear to be the running backs set to get work. Johnson is dealing with a concussion from Week 5 and D’Onta Foreman has been a healthy scratch, which means Homer could be in line to lead the backfield if he’s healthy. The Bears could also sign a running back, with free agent Leonard Fournette being the most notable possibility.
