Texas Longhorns quarterback Quinn Ewers is in his second season as the starter and is leading the program through its final year in the Big 12. Expectations are high in Austin, TX, as the team was picked as the preseason favorite to win the conference and there is a strong chance that this could finally be the year where the Horns break into the College Football Playoff. Ewers’ performance under this pressure this year will determine whether or not he’ll be in New York City for the Heisman Trophy ceremony.

Ewers and the Longhorns came off a bye and withstood a feisty Houston team on the road on Saturday, escaping TDECU Stadium 31-24. Unfortunately, the QB didn’t come out unscathed as he was knocked out of the game in the fourth quarter with a shoulder injury and was later seen on the sideline wearing a sling. He was great through the air prior to the injury, going 23-29 for 211 yards and two touchdowns.
Ewers’ status for this Saturday’s game against BYU will be a huge question mark throughout the week. The injury has most likely ended any fleeting Heisman hope he had this season as he has fallen off the odds board.
