Report: Joe Burrow will start in Week 3 MNF vs. Rams

Updated:

By: Nick Simon

Sept. 25 update — Joe Burrow will start, per Ian Rapoport.

Sept. 23 update — Joe Burrow is listed as questionable for Week 3, per Ben Baby. The team plays the Rams on Monday Night Football, which means we likely won’t know his status on Sunday. Adam Schefter and/or Ian Rapoport might come up with some news from their sources, but it is likely a difficult call for fantasy football managers. The Bengals brought A.J. McCarron in for a workout on Saturday, per Baby.

Sept. 22 update — Burrow was officially listed as a limited participant in practice on Friday. We should get his official status on Saturday.

Sept. 22 update — Burrow was spotted at Friday’s practice. He will likely be a limited participant, especially with the extra practice day on Saturday ahead of Monday night’s game.

Sept 21, update — Burrow officially did not practice on Thursday. He was out on the practice field, but didn’t do anything. His status for Monday night is very much up in the air.

Sept 21, update — Burrow was not throwing during the media portion of practice and his head coach wouldn’t say if he will play this Monday or not.

Sept 21, update — Burrow was practicing on Thursday with a sleeve on his calf. He likely won’t get a full practice in, but it’s a good sign to see him out there for the team’s first practice of the week.

Sept 18, update — Bengals coach Zac Taylor wouldn’t give a firm update on Joe Burrow’s calf on Monday. When asked if his QB would be able to go on Monday night, Taylor replied, “hard to say,” per Ben Baby. This situation will probably remain unclear until we start seeing practice reports, but could last all the way up to gameday.

Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow has been dealing with a calf injury since training camp and tweaked it in the fourth quarter of Sunday’s 27-24 loss to the Baltimore Ravens. The former No. 1 overall pick has struggled through the first two games of the regular season and there’s now a question over whether he’ll suit up for their Week 3 matchup against the Los Angeles Rams next Monday nigh.

NFL Insider Ian Rapoport reported that the quarterback will give it a few days to see how his calf feels before proceeding with a plan for the prime time matchup.

Fantasy football implications for Week 3

Fantasy managers should obviously monitor Burrow’s status throughout the week and with this being a Monday night game, his participation in Friday and Saturday’s practices should give an indication over whether he’ll take the field.

In the event that he doesn’t play, backup Jake Browning will get the start. That would decrease the fantasy viability for the likes of receivers Ja’Marr Chase and Tee Higgins this week while running back Joe Mixon could see an uptick in carries.
