The Wyndham Championship might not be the most glamorous stop on the PGA TOUR, but for players in the middle of the pack it’s one of the most important events of the year as it’s the last chance to earn FedEx Cup points to stay a TOUR member.
Players that finish in the Top 125 in the FedEx Cup points race will maintain their fully exempt status for the 2022-23 season. Those players will also go to Memphis next week for the first round of the FedEx Cup Playoffs at the FedEx St. Jude Championship.
But for those that fall short and are No. 126-200 on the FedEx list, they will head to the Korn Ferry Tour Playoffs in two weeks. At those stops, they’ll combine with the Top 75 players on the Korn Ferry Tour in a three-week battle with 25 tour cards available. Those cards won’t be fully exempt, and how high you finish will determine how many events you’ll be eligible to enter next season.
There are other ways to be exempt, and that rather long list is here. Stewart Cink enters the weekend as No. 125 on the FedEx Cup list, but even if he were to not stay in the Top 125, his status as one of the Top 25 leading money winners in PGA TOUR history (18th all-time, $42,735,681) means he can use a one-time exemption as a member of that list to play next season. This also applies to players in the Top 50, and can re-apply to players if they’ve already used their Top 25 exemption.
The best exemptions go to winners of a major or The Players Championship in the last five years. Then regular PGA TOUR winners in the last two seasons as well as the current one, and then it starts to get a bit wonky. You want to be as high as you can on the priority list, and the difference between being in the Top 125 and not is massive.
Here is the list of players ranked from 110-200 on the FedEx Cup points list, and how their results at the Wyndham Championship will affect their standing. The Top 65 and ties will make the cut, with the projected cut line being at -2 as of now.
Players in italics will not be in the Top 125, and will need to head to the Korn Ferry Playoffs to maintain their TOUR status in 2022-23. Also players that have joined the LIV Tour will likely be removed from the FedEx Cup standings, depending on the results of an antitrust suit that has been filed, as well as a temporary restraining order being sought by Talor Gooch, Hudson Swafford, and Matt Jones so they can compete in the 2022 FedEx Cup Playoffs.
Update August 6 8:00 a.m. After the cut, we added the future PGA TOUR status of each player as best we could determine it. We believe these are right, but we might have made a mistake or missed an exemption. Don’t take it as gospel, but it’s what we believe to be correct.
Update August 7 10:15 a.m. Here is the complete list of scores for all players through three rounds. The leader is Sungjae Im at -13.
Update August 7 6:15 p.m. We’ve eliminated all players that will for sure lose their cards. For those just below the Top 125 threshold, they’re probably safe (for now) as this list includes several LIV players. For those further down the board, they’re likely either on conditional status for next season if they finish between 126-150, or off to the Korn Ferry Tour Playoffs to try and earn their status back.
Update 6:25 p.m. As we await the final numbers, this week’s winner Joohyung Kim and Max McGreevy did enough this week to qualify for the Playoffs, and they bumped out Matt Wallace and Austin Smotherman. Kim will enter the Playoffs in 34th place following the 500 points he’ll get for the victory.
Two players who did not enter the week in the top 125 in the FedExCup move in and qualify for the FedExCup Playoffs:

Joohyung Kim (entered the week as a Special Temporary Member)
Max McGreevy (entered the week at No. 126)
Update 6:45 p.m. Here’s the final Top 125 that have qualified for the FedEx Cup Playoffs, and the 75 that will be eligible to play the Korn Ferry Tour Playoffs to keep their status. We’ve added today’s winner Joohyung Kim in 34th place, and bumped out those that won’t make the cut.
Update 9:20 p.m. We added all the previously-exempted players from 126-200, and the reason for their exemption, to the chart below.
