Seattle Mariners vs. Miami Marlins prediction, pick for MLB on Wednesday 7/08/26

Seattle and Miami meet again at loanDepot Park after the Marlins stole the opener, 6-5, in 10 innings. Seattle enters 47-45 after a 5-1 homestand, but the road version still brings some volatility. Miami is 50-42, has won four straight, and continues to play like one of the league’s better June-to-July stories. The Marlins went 20-6 in June, scored 5.1 runs per game that month, and allowed only 3.1. Seattle had the bats to win Tuesday, too. Young homered, Raleigh doubled twice, Naylor tied it, and Arozarena kept reaching base. The problem was wasted traffic. Miami made Seattle pay late, and that late-game reminder keeps this from being a simple Mariners side. Below is my preview, prediction, and pick for today’s baseball game between the Seattle Mariners and the Miami Marlins.

Here’s how I’ll play it. I’ll be pumping out these predictions for individual games all season, with plenty of coverage here on DraftKings Network. Follow my handle @dansby_edits for more betting plays.

Mariners vs. Blue Jays prediction, preview

Kirby gives Seattle the better starting-pitcher case. He is 7-7 with a 3.81 ERA, 1.32 WHIP, 104 innings, 91 strikeouts, and 24 walks. He has four straight quality starts, including eight innings of two-run ball in his last outing. The contact profile backs up the run prevention: 89.4 mph average exit velocity, 41.6% hard-hit rate, .300 xwOBA, and 6.7% barrels. His command still drives the profile, and the 24 walks through 104 innings give him a clear edge over Phillips. Miami can pressure him with left-handed volume, but Kirby is the stable pitcher here. He should keep Seattle in the game early, even against a lineup carrying better form than its preseason reputation.

Phillips is the bet target. His 3.52 ERA hides a 1.38 WHIP, 32 walks in 69 innings, a .337 xwOBA, 44.1% hard-hit rate, and 8.5% barrels. That is a dangerous combination against a Seattle lineup that can stack lefties and switch bats. The projected order puts Crawford, Canzone, Raleigh, Naylor, Raley, Young, and Emerson into that lane around Arozarena and Robles. Phillips has enough secondaries to steal outs, but the walk rate creates extra baserunners before the damage contact arrives. His 52 strikeouts also leave fewer escape hatches once Seattle gets two men aboard. A pitcher with that profile can survive clean innings, then lose the next one through a walk, a single, and one pulled ball into the gap.

Seattle’s best recent bats line up well enough for an early scoring push. Arozarena is 12-for-36 over his last 10 with three doubles, two homers, eight RBI, nine runs, and a 1.038 OPS. He also leads qualified Seattle hitters at .287/.376/.453, with nine homers, 21 doubles, 19 steals, and 41 RBI. Young has been even louder lately, going 11-for-35 with three homers, five RBI, eight runs, and a .951 OPS across his last 10. Canzone’s recent average is light at .214, but he has two homers, four walks, and a .464 slugging mark in eight games. Raleigh is only 6-for-34 during that span, but two doubles Tuesday were a useful sign. Seattle does not need every bat hot. It needs Arozarena traffic, one lefty barrel, and one extended inning.

Blue Jays vs. Mariners pick, best bet

Miami’s lineup is why I’m not laying Seattle F5 -0.5. Hicks is seeing everything right now, Lopez is carrying a .343/.374/.515 season line, and Edwards keeps innings alive with contact and walks. Stowers and Caissie give Miami the left-handed damage threats against Kirby, and Caissie already got Seattle with a homer in the opener. Marsee also reached twice, drove in two runs, and walked it off. Kirby is the better starter, but Miami has enough hot bats, left-handed pressure, and inning-extension pieces to scratch out early runs. That keeps the bet on Seattle’s bats against Phillips, not Seattle’s lead through five.

The full-game context still leans toward Seattle runs. Miami used multiple late arms Tuesday, including Faucher in the eighth, Fairbanks in the ninth, and Gibson in the 10th. Seattle also spent leverage, with Speier allowing the tying homer and Rucker taking the loss. That bullpen usage makes Mariners team total over 4.5 playable, but the first-five version attacks the weakest piece first. The weather does not add much. It is hot and humid outside, but loanDepot Park plays differently with the roof closed, so the handicap comes back to Phillips’ traffic profile and Seattle’s lefty shape. The full-game over 8.5 has paths, but Kirby’s floor and the closed-roof environment keep it behind the team angle.

Best bet: Mariners F5 team total over 2.5 (+110), playable to -105.

Projected F5: Mariners 3, Marlins 2. Projected final: Mariners 5, Marlins 4.

Best bet: Mariners F5 TT o2.5 (+110) at Mariners
