Update, Sept. 9 — Moss has been downgraded to doubtful for Week 1 vs. the Jags. So the Colts will likely need to go with a backfield featuring Deon Jackson and rookie Evan Hull.

Update, Sept. 8 — Moss was limited yet again on Friday. He heads into the weekend listed as questionable on the final injury report. If Moss is active on Sunday, he figures to be in some sort of running back committee alongside Deon Jackson and rookie Evan Hull.

Update, Sept. 7 — Moss was able to log a second consecutive limited practice on Thursday. He would want to be a full participation on Friday if he wants to avoid an injury designation heading into the weekend. Moss has a chance to be in the contention for interim starting running back with Jonathan Taylor on the reserve/PUP list.

Update, Sept. 6 — Moss officially was limited with a forearm injury on Wednesday. This is a good sign for his availability for Sunday, but it would be good to see him get a full practice in and taken off the injury report before the game.

Update, Sept. 6 — Moss will practice on Wednesday. The interim starting running back job is up for grabs, with Jonathan Taylor starting the season on the reserve/PUP list.

Indianapolis Colts running back Zack Moss suffered a broken arm in practice on July 31 and underwent surgery on the arm immediately after the injury. Moss is reportedly progressing, but no updates have been given on his Week 1 availability as the Colts prepare to open against the Jacksonville Jaguars. He participated in Monday’s walkthrough.

Fantasy football implications for Week 1

If Moss is unavailable or limited in Week 1, the Colts are going to be very short on running backs. The assumed starter, Jonathan Taylor, is on the PUP list due to an ankle issue. Moss’ backups would be Deon Jackson and rookie Evan Hull, who the Colts selected in the fifth round of the 2023 NFL Draft. Jackson had 236 rushing yards in 2022.

Even if Moss misses Week 1, he will still be the starter for Weeks 2 through 4 before Taylor is allowed to return to play, so his fantasy outlook should remain largely the same.
