Shortly after firing 2022-23 Coach of the Year Mike Brown, the Sacramento Kings seem to have found their answer: Doug Christie. Under Christie’s tutelage, Sacramento (17-19) has won four straight to climb into 11th place in the Western Conference, 3.5 games behind the sixth seed. The Kings have beaten some pretty decent teams during its current streak, with a healthy 76ers team and the Memphis Grizzlies the most impressive.
On Monday, Sacramento will face the only team that is currently going through more turmoil than itself: the Miami Heat. Miami suspended Jimmy Butler for seven games for conduct detrimental to the team and subsequently lost by 36 to the 7-25 Utah Jazz on Saturday, with star center Bam Adebayo scoring just four points.
Heat fans caught a break when Kings point guard De’Aaron Fox was ruled out for his second straight game. However, Miami will still have to deal with Sacramento’s bruising center, Domantas Sabonis, who is averaging 20.6 points, 13.7 rebounds, and 6.2 assists.

Sabonis should have plenty of opportunities to stuff the stat sheet, especially against a Miami team in disarray. The Heat have had an expectedly solid defense, ranking 12th with an 111.8 defensive rating this season, but giving up 136 points to a Jazz team with the 11th-worst offensive rating in the league is inexcusable. If Miami struggled against Utah, it will most certainly have trouble against Sacramento, which has the league’s seventh-best offense and has been especially clicking since Christie took over.
With Fox out, Sabonis will be the Kings’ go-to offensive option, especially against an undersized Heat team whose tallest regular rotation player is six-foot-10 Nikola Jović. Fox has only missed one game this season, Sunday’s blowout win over the Golden State Warriors in which Sabonis recorded 22 points and 13 rebounds in just 29 minutes before sitting the entire fourth quarter. Miami has struggled to crash the glass, with the 11th-lowest rebounding percentage (49.2%) and the eighth-most rebounds allowed per game (45.2) in the league. Overall, the Heat have been the seventh-worst team against opposing centers.
