Andreeva won an Olympic silver medal in doubles at just 17 years old and is the youngest woman ever to win a WTA 1000 event. Her potential is endless, but she has yet to get it done at a Grand Slam. This is Andreeva’s second-ever major semi-final, with the first also being here at Roland-Garros in 2024. Andreeva now has a great chance to not just make her first final but win her first major title before even turning 20 years old.
Andreeva has been great this clay season. She won the Linz Open to start the season, made the semi-finals in Stuttgart, made the final in Madrid, and then won the doubles title in Rome. Andreeva now could face her doubles partner, Diana Schnaider, in the final here at Roland-Garros.

The last couple of months, Marta Kostyuk has played the best tennis of her life. She has risen to No. 15 in the WTA rankings, the highest of her career. Even if she loses this match, she will rise to at least No. 12 in the WTA rankings. As of two months ago, Kostyuk had just one WTA title to her name… now she has three. Kostyuk was a solid player over the past few years, but had never made a real run at a major. Her best Grand Slam finish prior to this tournament was making the quarter-finals at the 2024 Australian Open. Kostyuk had much more success in her career as a doubles player prior to 2026.
However, this clay season has been a special one for Marta Kostyuk. She showed flashes of good form earlier in the year, making the final at the Brisbane International. However, she entered the clay season with no real expectations. Kostyuk started the clay season at a lower-level tournament, the Open de Rouen. Kostyuk was actually the top seed in that tournament and backed that up, winning her second career WTA title. The real shock came the following tournament, where she won her first-ever WTA 1000 title in Madrid. The player she defeated in that final? Mirra Andreeva.

This is the third career meeting between Marta Kostyuk and Mirra Andreeva. The first match between them came at the Brisbane International to start the year, where Kostyuk upset Andreeva in the quarter-finals. She eventually made the final, where she lost to World No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka. The match got some added attention because of the fact that it was a Ukrainian facing a Russian, and the lack of a handshake at the end of the match.
That attention was magnified by 1000x when these two faced off in the Madrid Open final. It was a much bigger stage with much more on the line, with the same outside distractions. Kostyuk once again came out on top to secure the biggest title of her career. Not only is Kostyuk now 2-0 in her career against Andreeva, but both of those matches were convincing two-set wins.
Marta Kostyuk has not lost a tennis match since March 22nd at the Miami Open against Elena Rybakina. That is 16 straight wins for Kostyuk, including the big final win over Mirra Andreeva. The way she is playing at the moment, I worry for anybody who stands in her way. That is why I am choosing not to be one of those people standing in her way and picking Kostyuk to get it done and move on to the Roland-Garros final.
