What happened to Roman Anthony? Live injury updates for Red Sox vs. Tigers on 5/4/26

UPDATE: Roman Anthony left Monday’s game due to right wrist discomfort.

Boston Red Sox outfielder Roman Anthony exited Monday’s game against the Detroit Tigers early due to injury.

In the bottom of the second, Anthony was replaced in the outfield by Masataka Yoshida. The reason seems to be a hand or wrist issue related to a swing he took earlier in the game during his first at-bat, as he likely tweaked it somehow and had to be checked out by a trainer.

The young star went 0-for-1 in his lone plate appearance on Monday.

Anthony, just 21 years old, is slashing just .229/.354/.321 in his first full MLB season. He’s recorded 12 runs, just five RBI and one home run in his 30 games, though he’s also drawn 20 walks.

The Red Sox are in the midst of a tumultuous campaign at 13-21, still sitting last in the AL East.
