10:38 p.m. ET: The fighters are on their way to the cage, and we should be underway shortly!
Lauren Murphy and Jessica Andrade will hit the octagon in a women’s flyweight bout at UFC 283 from Jeunesse Arena in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The main card will get started at 10:00 p.m. ET leading up to the Glover Teixeira vs. Jamahal Hill fight.
Murphy will enter Saturday night’s event with a 16-5 record and is four inches taller with a reach that is five inches longer than Andrade’s reach. Murphy had a five-fight winning streak going before losing a title bout against Valentina Shevchenko, but the American got back on track with a victory over Miesha Tate via unanimous decision in July.
Andrade has a 23-9 fighting record and picked up victories in three of her last four fights including two in a row heading into this bout in her home country. Her most recent fight came in a submission win over Amanda Lemos, winning in the first round for the second fight in a row.
Andrade is favored to win in this bout with -475 odds at DraftKings Sportsbook.
We’ll be providing live updates throughout the fight with round-by-round scoring until a winner is determined.
Lauren Murphy vs. Jessica Andrade round-by-round results
Round 1: 10-9 Andrade
This certainly doesn’t look like it’s going to go the distance. Murphy’s face is already hamburger, and she ate 56 total strikes in that round while landing only 20. Andrade just has more speed and pace, and Murphy’s lone takedown didn’t do much at all. Close to a 10-8 round.
Round 2: 10-8 Andrade
Just more of the same, and maybe this should be stopped. Murphy is an absolute warrior, but her offense is basically nil, and she’s a punching bag out there. Strikes are 133-50 for Jessica, and the power behind them is so much more as well.
Round 3: 10-8 Andrade
This really should have been stopped. Murphy needed to be saved from herself and her absolute warrior spirit. Not ok to let it go the distance.
Jessica Andrade wins somewhere between 30-27 and 30-24 depending on how you give 10-8 rounds. This was not a competitive MMA contest.
Judges result: Jessica Andrade wins by unanimous decision (30-26, 30-25, 30-25)
