The #11-ranked middleweight takes on a former UFC champion when Omari Akhmedov takes on Chris Weidman at UFC Fight Night this Saturday from Las Vegas on ESPN+.
Akhmedov is 8-3-1 in the UFC, and 20-4-1 overall as an MMA fighter. The Dagestani native is 5-0-1 in his last six outings, and his 2.99 strikes per minute and 2.40 takedowns per 15 minutes shows his balance as a fighter. With seven KO’s and five submission wins in his career, he’s taken home Fight of The Night honors twice in the UFC.
Five years ago Weidman had a perfect record of 13-0 with two stoppage wins over Anderson Silva and one over Vitor Belfort, and was the reigning UFC middleweight champion. Now he’s lost five of his last six bouts with all five losses coming by KO or TKO. The 36-year-old former Hofstra All-American wrestler was one of the biggest stars in UFC, but in his last fight against Dominick Reyes in October of last year he was knocked out in just 103 seconds via eight total strikes.
Here are the betting odds at DraftKings Sportsbook for Omari Akhmedov vs. Chris Weidman at UFC Fight Night from Las Vegas on August 8th.
Betting splits
Omari Akhmedov: +115 (50% of action, 48% of bets)
Chris Weidman: -141 (50% of action, 52% of bets)
Here are the DraftKings DFS salaries for Omari Akhmedov vs. Chris Weidman tonight:
DraftKings DFS Salaries
Omari Akhmedov: $8,200
Chris Weidman: $8,000
It’s now or never for Weidman, who hasn’t had a first-round stoppage since Vitor Belfort in May of 2015. He’s still a money line favorite, but his lack of performance lately does make this one a challenge. Any fighter in the UFC’s Top 15 should present a significant challenge, and since the bettors have inverted the favorite from the DFS pricing here, this might be a bout to avoid.
