The opening fight of UFC on ESPN 14 tonight is a bantamweight battle with Chris Gutierrez taking on Cody Durden live from the UFC Apex facility in Las Vegas.
Gutierrez is 3-1 since joining the UFC, and 15-4 overall in MMA. His las bout was a TKO via leg kicks in the second round against Vince Morales in Jacksonville on May 30th. “El Guapo” averages 4.17 strikes per minute of octagon time, with just one UFC takedown. The 28-year-old fights out of Jersey City, New Jersey and the Factory X gym.
Durden makes his debut with an 11-2 record, having won seven straight via stoppage on the independent circuit. Competing recently out of the National Fighting Championship promotion, the Covington, Georgia native has 10 early endings in his 11 victories, with five KO’s and five submissions. He fights out of American Top Team Atlanta, and here’s a video of him being interviewed with highlights.
