Ian Heinisch back in for UFC 250 fight with Gerald Meerschaert

Heinisch-Meerschaert would appear to be back on after Covid-19 threatened to derail it.

Middleweight fighter Ian Heinisch would appear to be back on the UFC 250 card for this Saturday. He was scheduled to face Gerald Meerschaert, but withdrew from the card for unknown reasons. Now, MMA Fighting has confirmed he is back on the card.

It turns out, one of Heinisch’s corner men tested positive for Covid-19, per TSN. However, MMA Fighting is reporting another test was taken and the coach was eventually cleared. UFC had selected Anthony Ivy to replace Heinisch, who was prepared to make his UFC debut on 48 hours noticed. He will not fight, but remains available as an alternate in case something else happens. Additionally, if he does not fight, he is expected to be rescheduled for a later UFC event.

Heinisch originally opened as a -125 favorite at DraftKings Sportsbook, while Meerschaert opened at +100. The line has not reopened as of this article being published, but I don’t expect it to change too much when DK gets it re-posted.
