UPDATE: Daniel Rodriguez defeats Gabriel Green by unanimous decision (30-27, 30-27, 30-27).
MMA returns on Saturday, May 30th with UFC on ESPN 9. The 11-fight card gets underway at 6 p.m. ET, and is headlined by Tyrone Woodley vs. Gilbert Burns in a matchup of welterweight contenders.
The card saw one change in the preliminaries. Daniel Rodriguez was set to face Kevin Holland in a welterweight fight, but a training camp injury forced Holland to withdraw. Gabriel Green was quickly brought in to replace him.
Rodriguez is 11-1 with six wins coming via KO/TKO, four by submission, and one decision. He has won seven straight fights, with his most recent coming via guillotine choke submission over Tim Means at UFC Fight Night 167 in February. His lone loss was a split decision to Victor Reyna in December 2017.
Green is making his UFC debut as the replacement. He enters with a 9-2 pro record, including three wins by KO/TKO and six submissions. His two losses were by KO and TKO. He’s won his last six pro fights, but has not fought since August 2018. In that fight with California Xtreme Fighting, he knocked out Richard LeRoy in the second round at CXF 14.
