Curtis Blaydes vs. Derrick Lewis main event for UFC Vegas 15 is canceled due to Covid-19

A positive Covid-19 test costs the promotion its biggest fight on Saturday’s card.

Saturday’s main event between Curtis Blaydes and Derrick Lewis at UFC Vegas 15 has been scrapped because of a positive Covid-19 test by Blades. Since Covid-19 began, this is be the first billed main event to be canceled or postponed on any UFC card.

It’s a bad break for the MMA promotion, as the No. 2 ranked heavyweight in Blaydes and the No. 4 in Lewis was by far the most appealing fight on a pretty dry card. Only one other fighter on the five-fight main card has any Top-15 ranking, as Anthony Smith is No. 6 at light heavyweight.

Blaydes has won his last four bouts, including a decision win over Alexander Volkov in his last outing on June 20th. He was the featured fight that night as well, which followed two TKO stoppages against Junior dos Santos and Shamil Abdurakhimov.

The odds at DraftKings Sportsbook for the fight had Blaydes as the -400 favorite, and Lewis the underdog at +300.
