DraftKings Championship Series: WGC FedEx St. Jude Invitational — First Round Qualifier Results

Matt Meiselman recaps the WGC FedEx St. Jude Invitational and Round 1 of the Fantasy Golf World Championship

The WGC-FedEx St. Jude Invitational was an unusually exciting golf tournament, needing two playoff holes to settle a three-way tie between Hideki Matsuyama, Sam Burns and Abraham Ancer. Ancer wound up taking first place, and it was an outcome that had significant DFS implications. Ancer and Burns were relatively popular picks in this week’s DraftKings Championship Series contest, as the 250 player field was condensed to 100 to kick off the Fantasy Golf World Championship.

Events of Sunday

Ancer and Burns were among the most selected golfers in the Fantasy Golf World Championship Round 1 contest, but Daniel Berger and Harris English were by far the most popular, each coming in at 56% owned. Berger was steady all week en route to a fifth place finish, but English actually held first place for the vast majority of the tournament. Late on Sunday, however, English began to fall apart, and it caused a huge swing in the contest standings. English began the day at -18, reached -20 with eight holes to play, and then made two double-bogeys before bogeying the Par-5 16th, which ultimately knocked him out of first place contention. The fourth place finish was still good enough for most of those who had either Ancer or Burns in their lineups, but there were a handful that fell outside the top 100 due to that result.

Looking Ahead to FGWC Rounds 2 & 3

This event will take place at Liberty National Golf Club in Jersey City, New Jersey, and it will be a live final with $1 million going to the winner. Below you’ll find a full list of the participants who are still alive and will continue to compete for that top prize over the next two weeks!
