MLB Cheat Sheet: DraftKings Fantasy Baseball DFS Picks, Predictions, Betting Odds for August 6

Steve Buchanan breaks down Friday’s DraftKings MLB slate with pitching and hitting analysis, odds, lines and prop bets.

Almost every team is on the slate tonight, as 14 games will take place starting at 7:05 p.m. ET. The only exception is the White Sox and Cubs, which takes place this afternoon, naturally. Let’s dive into this slate, shall we?

DraftKings Sportsbook Game Notes

Biggest Moneyline Favorite

Note: This section highlights the pitcher whose team is the largest favorite on DraftKings Sportsbook.

Chris Bassitt, $9,800, Oakland Athletics (-290) vs. Texas Rangers (+230) — The A’s are massive favorites tonight as they host the Joey Gallo-less Rangers in Oakland. Bassitt has flat out dominated this team in three starts already, going 21 innings, allowing just two runs on 12 hits with 14 strikeouts, good for an average of 24 DKFP per start. The strikeout total leaves plenty to be desired but I guess when you’re holding a team to just two runs over 21 innings, you’re doing something right. He’s also pitched his best baseball at home this season, where he sports a .248 wOBA, a 3.31 FIP and a 0.90 HR/9.

The loss of Gallo certainly hasn’t helped this offense, as they’ve averaged just 2.4 runs in the month of August, including being shut out for the 11th time last night. If you didn’t know, that’s the second-most in the league, trailing only the Rockies at 13. The A’s also do well when Bassitt takes the mound, going 15-7 when he takes the mound.

Highest Projected Total

Seattle Mariners (+155; 4.5 runs) at New York Yankees (-180; 5.5 runs) 10.5 runs — Just like we saw yesterday, these teams are once again in the highest projected total of the night at 10.5 runs. The first game of the series saw the total go under in the 5-3 win for the Yankees, which had an over/under of 9.5 runs. I don’t know how confident I’d feel about the under in this one, with Marco Gonzales ($6,700) taking on Wandy Peralta ($4,000).

Peralta is paving the way for a bullpen game out of the Yankees, as we haven’t seen him go more than 1 13 this season. The Yankees bullpen has been handling a lot of work lately, logging 27 inning over the past week. They’ve been great though, posting a 2.42 FIP, a 9.1 K/9 and a 0.33 HR/9 in that span. Meanwhile, Gonzales continues to struggle on the road with a .354 wOBA, a 4.91 FIP and a 1.4 HR/9. The Yankees have a 5.5 projected team total tonight with a -120 line on the over. After Gonzales, they’ll have a chance to get to the Mariners bullpen, which I mentioned yesterday, continues to be a burden as of late. I think they’ll be right at this double-digit over under but would likely take the route of the Yankees team total if making a bet on an over in this game.

Lineup Starters

Pitcher to Build Around

German Marquez, Colorado Rockies vs. Miami Marlins, $8,400 — The problem with the pitching options tonight is that almost everyone is overpriced. On what planet are we going to get 3x on guys like Zack Greinke ($9,600) against the Twins? Or Adam Wainwright ($9,500) against the Royals? It’s not going to happen. So I see someone like Marquez, who is underpriced because he’s pitching at Coors Field against the Marlins. It’s never a great feeling to take a starter in this scenario but this is someone who is averaging 18.6 DKFP with a .266 wOBA and a 3.20 FIP. This Marlins team isn’t going to pose much of a threat and have one of the highest K% in the league against righties at 24.7% to go with a .285 wOBA, a .128 ISO and an 80 wRC+.

Stud Hitter to Pay For

Freddie Freeman, Atlanta Braves vs. Washington Nationals, $5,800 — Good friend of the article Erick Fedde ($6,300) is taking the mound for the Nationals tonight. When I mean friend of the article, I mean someone we love to stack against. It’ll be business as usual with him going against the Braves and when I start that stack, the anchor will be Freeman at $5,800. Fedde has a .367 wOBA with a 5.40 FIP and a 1.5 HR/9 against lefties this season. He’s also been blasted by this Braves team on two separate occasions, allowing 10 runs on 11 hits through just 6 2/3 innings! This is an easy one for me tonight.

Save Big by Drafting

Carter Kieboom, Washington Nationals at Atlanta Braves, $2,100 — On the other side, you’ll see some really good value in Kieboom. After the Nationals cleaned house at the trade deadline, it allowed some of their prospects, like Kieboom, to fill a full-time role. He’s responded well and is currently riding a five-game hitting streak, going 8-for-21 with two home runs, a double, five RBI and an average of 12.8 DKFP. He’ll face the lefty Kyle Muller ($9,200) tonight with a chance to extend that to six games.
