Another season of the English Premier League kicks off on August 13, with newcomers Brentford facing Arsenal in the opener. There have been several off-season moves and new clubs entering the league from the Championship but the favorite for the outright winner market hasn’t changed.

Defending champion Manchester City is expected to cruise its way through to yet another title. We break down the EPL betting markets for you, as brought to you by DraftKings Sportsbook.

Outright Winner

Let’s start with the odds for the outright winner of the league. Manchester City begins as a massive favorite to defend its title, with odds of -165. That is because despite losing Sergio Aguero to Barcelona, Manchester City’s roster is laden with talent across the soccer pitch. The club has also added Jack Grealish in the middle of the field from Aston Villa to bolster one of the strongest attacks in the final third. Manchester City is still looking for an outright striker, with Tottenham’s Harry Kane a rumored possibility to fill that void. Should that deal come to pass, don’t expect Manchester City’s outright odds to shorten soon.

European champion Chelsea has moved further up the odds board after the acquisition of Romelu Lukaku from Inter Milan for over €110 million. He brings plenty of form with him after a strong performance in the European Championship as well as a run of 72 appearances for Inter, which resulted in 47 goals. He will join Timo Werner, Hakim Ziyech, Kai Havertz and Mason Mount, among others, in a powerful offensive core.

Should Liverpool be priced as high as it is currently? DraftKings Sportsbook will pay out +500 odds should the winners of the preceding season find its fluency. That is not implausible considering the majority of the core has been retained, including Mohamed Salah, Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane. The club has lost Georginio Wijnaldum to PSG but Liverpool will have Virgil van Dijk back in a defensive capacity.

The value choice of the English Premier League probably comes from Old Trafford as Manchester United is priced at +750. Manchester United has brought in Jadon Sancho from Borussia Dortmund to throw its hat in the ring for the most powerful offensive lineup in the EPL. Sancho will add to Marcus Rashford, Edinson Cavani, Anthony Martial, Mason Greenwood and Bruno Fernandes to provide able and reliable options for manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

While there is always a chance that a best-of-the-rest team could spring an upset, that seems highly implausible this season because of the depth and talent of the top four.

Top Goalscorer

The most proficient striker in the English Premier League is Harry Kane (+300), but his future is still undecided, which might have an impact on this market in the first few gameweeks. He won the Golden Boot last season with 23 goals but was also injured for a portion of the latter half of the season. If his move to Manchester City comes to fruition, the odds for Kane could shorten rapidly because he will not only be offered a higher volume of chances in the final third, he will also have higher-quality opportunities.

Romelu Lukaku carries +500 odds. He scored 30 goals in the 2020-21 season across competitions and also played a pivotal role in Inter winning its first title in over a decade. He will potentially have Timo Werner (+2000) alongside, the Bundesliga’s second-highest goal scorer in the 2019-20 season, to feed him as manager Thomas Tuchel will likely play Lukaku in a central position.

Don’t dawdle on Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah (+400) either. He was the second-highest goalscorer in the 2020-21 season with 22 goals despite his club struggling through the majority of the season. He scored 19 goals in the preceding season and shared the Golden Boot in the 2018-19 season after scoring 22 goals. These are reliable stats to suggest that Salah will perennially be in the race for the Golden Boot this season as well.
