Fantasy Baseball Picks: Top DraftKings MLB DFS Lineup Strategy for Rockies vs. Padres Showdown on July 10

Stan Son gives his top lineup advice for Saturday’s fantasy baseball Showdown contest on DraftKings between the Rockies and Padres, which starts at 10:10 p.m. ET.

MLB: Washington Nationals at San Diego Padres Orlando Ramirez-USA TODAY Sports

This is the second game of the three-game series between the Colorado Rockies and San Diego Padres. The Padres took the opener, 4-2. The Rockies are 38-51 on the season and 7-34 away from the friendly confines of Coors Field. The Padres are 53-38 and 33-17 at home. Joe Musgrove ($15,600 CP; $10,400) gets the nod for the Padres while Germán Márquez ($15,000 CP; $10,000) goes for the Rockies. DraftKings Sportsbook has the total set at 7.5 runs, with the Padres favored on the money line (-195).

My strategy for this slate was to try and fit in both pitchers as I think it will be a relatively low-scoring game. Points from pitchers are just more reliable than from any hitter. I also wanted to focus on Padres bats since the Rockies’ bullpen has the highest FIP in the league. Since I fit in both pitchers, there wasn't much salary left for batters, so diving into the depths of the lineup was needed.

Captain’s Picks

Joe Musgrove ($15,600 CP) - Musgrove is coming off two terrible starts in which he’s allowed five earned runs in both games, good for 4.5 and 4.8 DKFP. That said, the Rockies are last in both home runs and runs scored on the road by a wide margin. Musgrove faced the Rockies at home back in May and put up 40.6 DKFP. I don’t expect that kind of performance again but a bounce back from his recent struggles could be in order. There’s risk, for sure, as he could be injured or the whole Spider Tack thing could be affecting him. In addition, he was due for some regression as his BABIP was in the low-.200 range. That said, he’s a good pitcher who has had a double-digit swinging-strike rate and sub-4 FIP over the past four seasons.

Wil Myers ($9,600 CP) - My preference is to utilize one of the pitchers at captain today, but if you’re paying down, Myers is my favorite candidate. He does have a high strikeout rate of 26.8% and bats seventh in the order, but he does provide some pop with some speed to the tune of 10 home runs and five stolen bases. His slash is a respectable .258/.331/.437 with a .179 ISO. Over the past five games, he’s produced double-digit DKFP with a high of 27. With Myers in the Captain’s slot, I’m able to fit in both pitchers with another expensive bat.

Value UTIL Plays

EDITOR’S NOTE: Padres C Webster Rivas is not in the lineup for Saturday’s game vs. the Rockies.

Webster Rivas ($4,200) - We need salary relief, especially if paying up for both pitchers. Victor Caratini ($5,000) got hit on the hand on Thursday and missed Friday’s game. It’s likely that he rests for the weekend. If so, Rivas should handle the catching duties today. He has 58 plate appearances this season and his slash is .200/.298/.360. Rivas’ BABIP is .211, so he’s had some misfortune. His walk rate is 12.1% while the strikeout rate is 17.2%, so he has good plate discipline. Rivas’ ISO is .160 and he has two home runs on the season so he possesses some pop.

Eric Hosmer ($6,200) - With an ISO of .105, Hosmer is pretty meh. His plate discipline numbers are fantastic, and he does have seven home runs, four stolen bases, 29 runs and 41 RBI on the season. Hosmer’s slash is a respectable .259/.318/.364, plus he bats sixth in the San Diego order and he’s super cheap. Not to mention the fact that he gets to face the Rockies’ bullpen.

Fades

EDITOR’S NOTE: Rockies SS Trevor Story has been scratched from the lineup for Saturday’s game vs. the Padres.

Trevor Story ($10,600) - Here’s a Story of a man named Trevor who has a .309/.363/.520 slash at home and a .186/.286/.364 one on the road. Yet, he’s priced $600 cheaper than Tatis. That’s a no from me, dog.

The Outcome

I like the Padres in a low-scoring affair. The Rockies’ offense is just so inept on the road and the bullpen is one of the worst in all of MLB.

Final Score: Padres 5, Rockies 1
