Fantasy Baseball Picks: Top DraftKings MLB DFS Lineup Strategy for Cubs vs. Dodgers Showdown on June 25

Kenny Ducey gives his top lineup advice for Friday’s fantasy baseball Showdown contest on DraftKings between the Cubs and the Dodgers, which starts at 10:10 p.m. ET.

The Chicago Cubs stunned the Los Angeles Dodgers on Thursday night with a combined no-hitter to take down the giants out West, and now they’ll be back for more on Friday. Jake Arrieta ($9,800) will return to the scene of his first career no-hitter and take on Tony Gonsolin ($10,600) and a hungry Dodgers lineup.

Plenty of fun is sure to ensue, so let’s get right into how to construct your DraftKings lineups for Friday night’s Showdown contest.

Chicago Cubs vs. Los Angeles Dodgers

Captain’s Picks

Max Muncy ($15,300 CP) - Yeah, you’re going to want to have Muncy against a pitcher who’s dealing with control problems and who has already allowed a mammoth 14 homers this year. Everything seems to set up for Muncy to either get on base each time or make solid contact, and that’s exactly what you want out of your captain. He’s been the best Dodgers’ hitter over the past two weeks, and probably the best one all season, yet he’s only the third-most expensive.

Willson Contreras ($13,200 CP) - I’m not really into playing the starting pitchers here with how they’ve thrown all year. Gonsolin’s going to go three or four innings and Arrieta has been bad, though you’re running the risk of some sort of magical outing. Either way, Contreras is definitely the best option from the Cubs, and the safest. He’s picked up five hits (including two homers) over his last three games, and as a picky hitter, he is a perfect foil for Gonsolin’s wildness. He should offer you a high-floor.

UTIL Plays

Joc Pederson ($8,200) - I generally like to find a value play in this section, but with the money we might save at captain I think we can fit a couple of mid-priced guys. One name I want in my lineup is the free-swinging Pederson, who I admittedly don’t really like all that much as a ballplayer, but who’s been the lead wRC+ man for the Cubs over the past two weeks. With four homers over that span, he’s clearly a prime candidate to pop one on Friday, and in a revenge game against a nothing righty in Gonsolin, he might have a chance to hit one early.

Cody Bellinger ($7,800) - It’s impossible not to play Bellinger at this price. He’s walked four times since coming off the IL, so he seems to be seeing the ball just fine. Arrieta’s struggles with homers would lead you to believe there should be some gopher balls to be found with Los Angeles, and one could easily come here. At the very least, Bellinger should reach at least twice.

Fades

Kris Bryant ($9,400) - Twelve games, 45 plate appearances, three hits for Kris Bryant. He’s hardly gotten on base at all, in any way, with only eight walks in the month of June. For this much money, it’s just not a worthwhile risk to take. You can spend your money in so many better ways at this price, like with Will Smith ($9,000). Bryant is mired in a slump and until his price comes down to a reasonable number, he’s a non-play.

The Outcome

I think both offenses should wake up just a little bit here with a pretty bland pitching matchup, but I don’t expect fireworks. Jake Arrieta should wiggle out of trouble like he always does, and this game should be close until one bullpen cracks. That should be Chicago’s, giving the Dodgers a close win at home to even the series.

Final Score: Dodgers 5, Cubs 3
