The NBA is the Wild West right now with COVID-19 and the league’s health protocols, but that doesn’t mean there aren’t edges to be had. We sit at 68-61-3 on article plays this season and look to improve with a good start to the week.
Follow along on Twitter — @julianedlow — for what we hope to be another great season, as some plays jump out late due to news, particularly in the player prop market. Here’s what jumps out to me on DraftKings Sportsbook.
New York Knicks at Memphis Grizzlies
NYK +4 (-115)
NYK 1H +2 (-105)
Injury news can add a strong play in any game right up until tipoff, so you never want to be close-minded about betting an NBA card. But until we get any of that potential slate-changing info, I have to be honest: the Knicks are really the only side that jump out to me on Monday. In fact, I’d rather ride the red-hot Knicks first half trend, as well as back them for the game, rather than try and find another spot to bet.
The Knicks have won 11 of their last 12, including an insane 14-1 ATS run — which has seen them go 6-0 ATS on the road. This team is just continuously overvalued, and while the Grizzlies have had their moments, they haven’t been particularly sharp at home this season, going to just 14-17 so far. Memphis has been on a good run over its last 20 games or so, but has slowed recently, going just 3-5 over the last eight and 1-3 ATS over the last four. This should be much closer to a pick’em.
If betting the game and you want a second play on this card, I’d just back the Knicks in the first half, which may be an even stronger play. New York is an insane 42-20-2 1H ATS this season, including 21-8-2 1H ATS on the road and 8-2 1H ATS in the last 10. Meanwhile, a big part of Memphis’ struggles at home have been due to slow starts, going just 12-18-1 1H ATS.

Portland Trail Blazers at Atlanta Hawks
ATL -2.5 (-115) — if we get injury/rest news from Portland
I don’t think I’ll wind up betting anything on this game and will just count the two Knicks plays towards the season record. But I didn’t want to just highlight one game on the slate. The Blazers are off a tough barn-burner win that went down to the wire in Boston on Sunday night. They probably need to keep playing their guys every night since they are battling for a play-in tournament seed. But if anybody does wind up ruled out, this could be a spot to look to jump on the Hawks, or get some quick player prop action.
