Madden Stream Picks: Top DraftKings Fantasy Football DFS Targets, Values for May 23

Zach Thompson gives his top studs and value plays at each position for Sunday’s three-game Madden Stream DraftKings slate, which starts at 6:00 p.m. ET.

Even though it’s May, it’s a great Sunday for fantasy football on the DraftKings Dream Stream with six Madden 21 sims on tap. This Sunday’s featured three-game classic slate gets underway at 6:00 p.m. ET with a matchup between the Super Bowl Champion Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the Pittsburgh Steelers. At 8:00 p.m. ET, the Houston Texans visit the Atlanta Falcons in the primetime matchup, and the final game of the day is an AFC East matchup between the Miami Dolphins and the New England Patriots, who have faced each other more than any other two teams in Madden 21 and will be meeting for the ninth time in these Madden 21 sims.

In addition to the daily contests, be sure to make your picks for the Free $5K Simulated Pro Football Season Pool for the new Madden season which starts on Monday. Check out all the details and my picks here on the DK Playbook. You can also find the gameplay details for all the sims and the upcoming schedule on the Madden Streams Information Page and dive into the full depth chart for each team.

Matt Ryan, Atlanta Falcons vs. Houston Texans, $7,100 — The Falcons and Texans are meeting for the first time in these Madden 21 sims, but it should be a favorable spot for Ryan, who is one of the best pocket passers in the entire game. He has thrown at least three touchdowns in four of his past five games with over 20 DKFP in each of those contests and over 28 DKFP in three of those five. Overall, he is averaging 19.4 DKFP on 265.2 passing yards per game while totaling 165 touchdowns in 81 sims. The Texans’ secondary has been one of the most generous in all of Madden 21, and the matchup and his momentum are enough to give Ryan a slight edge over Deshaun Watson ($7,500), who also comes with high upside.

Other Option — Deshaun Watson ($7,500)

Tua Tagovailoa, Miami Dolphins vs. New England Patriots, $6,000 — Coach Bill Belichick’s domination of rookie QBs doesn’t extend to Madden 21, where Tua has fared very well in his past meetings with a tough Patriots defense. In their most recent matchup, Tua had 26.78 DKFP on 292 passing yards, two touchdowns and 91 rushing yards. In prior matchups, he averaged 14.8 DKFP over five games against the Patriots. The rookie lefty also comes in on a nice role with over 17 DKFP in four of his past seven.

Other Option — Cam Newton ($6,600)

Running Back

Matt Breida, Miami Dolphins vs. New England Patriots, $6,900 — Breida makes a lot of sense against the Patriots since New England’s strong secondary often forces check-down passes to opposing RBs. Breida has had success against them in the past with 22.5, 18.2, 16.9, 13.4, 8.9 and 21.5 DKFP in his six matchups since taking over as RB1. Breida has over 11 DKFP in six straight sims overall and has added 3.7 receptions for 31.2 receiving yards per sim to his average of 59.0 rushing yards over his 80 sims.

Other Option — Todd Gurley II ($7,400)

Jaylen Samuels, Pittsburgh Steelers at Tampa Bay Buccaneers, $4,700 — Samuels has had lots of success as the Steelers’ third-down back, averaging 4.0 catches for 28.5 yards per sim and scoring eight touchdowns in 78 games. He had seven catches for 9.8 DKFP against Dallas in his most recent contest and has at least three receptions in four of his past five games. He also had a solid 12.6 DKFP against the Bucs in their first meeting.

Other Options — LeSean McCoy ($4,800), James White ($4,100)

Wide Receiver

Julio Jones, Atlanta Falcons vs. Houston Texans, $7,700 — Jones should feast in this matchup against the Texans. He’s coming off a massive 39.2-DKFP performance against the Panthers and has seven touchdowns over his past four sims to bring his total to 56 scores in 81 sims while averaging 5.1 catches for 82.9 receiving yards per game. Jones is hardly ever a bust with over 10 DKFP in 22 of his past 23 sims.

Other Options — JuJu Smith-Schuster ($6,300), Mike Evans ($6,100)

Julian Edelman, New England Patriots at Miami Dolphins, $5,500 — Edelman has a significant ratings advantage in this matchup out of the slot and has 18.2 and 20.2 DKFP in his two most recent matchups with Miami. He has also found the end zone twice over his past three games with over 15 DKFP in each of those three contests.

Russell Gage, Atlanta Falcons vs. Houston Texans, $4,400 — Another slot receiver who stays involved in most matchups is Gage, who has five catches or more in five of his past eight sims while averaging 3.6 catches for 40.8 yards per sim over his 81 contests. He should be another part of the Falcons’ passing game you consider in this excellent matchup.

Other Options — Scotty Miller ($4,100), Jakeem Grant ($3,100)

Tight End

Eric Ebron, Pittsburgh Steelers at Tampa Bay Buccaneers, $5,400 — Ebron is the only TE on the slate averaging over 12 DKFP per sim and has surpassed that average in three straight games, highlighted by 22 DKFP performance against the Dolphins and 21.7 DKFP against the Cowboys. He also had one of the best TE games ever with 43.5 DKFP against the Broncos recently, showing off the high ceiling he brings to this matchup with Tampa Bay.

Other Option — Devin Asiasi ($5,000)

Darren Fells, Houston Texans at Atlanta Falcons, $4,100 — The Texans’ passing game is a hard one to trust since Watson runs so often, but Fells usually finds a way to get involved on possession-style routes over the middle of the field. He is averaging 4.1 catches per sim and has at least three receptions in 16 of his past 18 games, making him a low-risk play at barely over $4K.

Other Option — Mike Gesicki ($4,600)

Steelers DST at Tampa Bay Buccaneers, $3,200 — The Steelers are one of the top DSTs in Madden 21, forcing 67 turnovers in 78 sims and totaling 163 sacks. They held the Bucs to just three points and finished with 8.0 DKFP in their first sim matchup and have exceeded their average of 6.3 DKFP per sim in three of their past four games.

Falcons DST vs. Houston Texans, $2,900 — While Watson is definitely a playmaker, he has been turnover-prone, and the Falcons should be able to take advantage. They have 153 sacks and 40 takeaways in their 81 sims to this point in Madden 21, and the matchup is enough to make them my top DST pick under $3K.
