MLB Best Bets: Baseball Picks, Predictions, Odds to Consider on DraftKings Sportsbook for May 2

Kenny Ducey gives his best bets on DraftKings Sportsbook for Sunday’s MLB betting card.

It’s Sunday, and some nail-biters of series are coming to an end all across baseball. We’ve got some great pitchers toeing the rubber everywhere, and some teams ascending up the standings. I’ve got my eye on quite a few bets today, but have narrowed it down to three. With that in mind, here are my best MLB bets to consider on DraftKings Sportsbook.

Miami Marlins at Washington Nationals

Nationals ML -130

It’s not often you can back Max Scherzer at odds like this, but that’s the chance we have on Sunday. Scherzer hasn’t been his dominant self this year, but he’s been effective enough with a 3.00 ERA and a gaudy 32.8% strikeout rate. Miami ranks 26th in wRC+ to righties, and aside from a few random outbursts over the past few weeks — which is being generous, it’s more like a few great innings — they’ve been largely ineffective at the plate. Scherzer shouldn’t have an issue on Sunday. On the other hand, Trevor Rogers will have to face a Washington side that’s third in wRC+ against lefties. I still have some doubts about Rogers with the competition level he’s faced, and think he could be in for a little regression.

Chicago Cubs at Cincinnati Reds

Reds ML -155

Yes, I’ll admit it. The Cubs have definitely hit the baseball over the last week, but I’m still trusting the overall poor lineup construction of this team with so many swing-and-miss guys, and the history of hitters like Jason Heyward, to make us a lot of money fading them this year. Tyler Mahle has been one of the most dominant right-handers in baseball with a .177 expected batting average and a sparkling 35.3% strikeout rate, which should really play up against a team that strikes out as much as Chicago. Trevor Williams has been anything but steady with a 5.05 xERA this year, and against a team that can mash righties, he won’t make it out unscathed. This is value. Let’s fade all the Trevors today.

St. Louis Cardinals at Pittsburgh Pirates

Pirates ML +128

Any time you have Carlos Martinez on the hill, you have a chance to win. If you’re the other team, that is. The Pirates will have the benefit of facing a righty with an alarming 47.8% hard-hit rate this year, and whose walk rate ranks in the bottom 8% of the league. Pittsburgh has proven time and time again that it can hit bad and mediocre pitching, and I love backing them at this price. The Buckos will counter with Wil Crowe, who is coming off an effective outing against the Minnesota Twins, who have one of the better lineups in the league, and things should continue against a Cardinals team that has struggled at the dish.
