Offense Notes
Chalk at Coors Yet Again
Popular offenses at Coors Field are basically a certainty whenever the Rockies have a home game on an MLB DFS slate, and Tuesday night is no different with the Padres likely being the highest owned team of the day. The Padres matchup is obviously a good one, and even with the high ownership, it’s not necessarily a situation that needs to be faded. There are two components to the “chalk” lineup construction for Tuesday, one being the Padres, with the other being Brady Singer ($5,700). Singer is this slate’s most underpriced pitcher by a substantial margin, and a result he’s going to be among the most popular. Singer is especially likely to be a prominent piece of Padres-heavy lineups, because the salary-saving you get with him makes those expensive San Diego bats much easier to fit in. The questions to figure out aren’t really whether or not you want to play Singer or whether or not you want to play the Padres, but more so whether it’s worth combining the most popular offense with the most popular cheap pitcher. Playing either side of this equation is certainly fine, but combining these two chalk pieces in GPPs is going to make it extremely difficult to generate a sufficiently unique lineup.
Nationals Value
Looking past the Padres, the next most popular team figures to be the Nationals, who have two expensive but elite hitters in Trea Turner ($5,600) and Juan Soto ($5,300), but otherwise have an extremely affordable lineup. Josh Bell ($3,600), Josh Harrison ($3,600) and Starlin Castro ($3,100) make this stack much more playable, and the good matchup figures to result in some reasonably heavy chalk. This game between the Phillies and Nationals is probably one that’s worth getting some pieces from, but a five-man Nats stack isn’t likely to be very contrarian.
Unowned Yankees and Astros
The Yankees and Astros are both in mediocre spots, with the Yankees going into a pitcher’s park in Tampa Bay and the Astros drawing a good pitcher in Shohei Ohtani ($7,400). Both of these offenses are a bit overpriced, and as a result there’s probably going to be very little ownership on either of them. The Yankees offense is good enough to be worth considering in any situation, but their opposing pitcher Luis Patino ($5,500) isn’t actually that good anyway. The Astros are a high-upside offense as well, and while Ohtani is an extremely talented pitcher, he’s shown plenty of volatility throughout his pitching career. Both of these teams are likely to be afterthoughts on a slate with comparable teams who are cheaper, so they both make for strong targets in GPPs.
