The NBA is the Wild West right now with COVID-19 and the league’s health protocols, but that doesn’t mean there aren’t edges to be had. We split our plays on Monday to go 1-1, and sit at 60-52-2 on the season for article plays. Let’s look to put together another winning week with some strong spots on Tuesday.
Follow along on Twitter — @julianedlow — for what we hope to be another great season, as some plays jump out late due to news, particularly in the player prop market. Here’s what jumps out to me on DraftKings Sportsbook.
The Knicks are absolutely cruising right now, and while they’re due to trip up at some point, I don’t think a home game against this dinged-up Hornets squad is the spot. New York enters Tuesday on a six-game winning streak, and the Knicks are actually attempting to go for their 10th consecutive cover tonight. The Hornets continue to limp along without Gordon Hayward and LaMelo Ball, and Devonte’ Graham has also been in and out of the lineup recently. There are just not enough capable bodies to carry the scoring for the Hornets, especially against a gritty defense like the Knicks. Charlotte is just 1-4 straight up and ATS in its past five. As you know by now, the Knicks are also an insane 38-18-2 1H ATS (first half), including another 11-3-1 1H ATS run over their last 15. The numbers point to the Knicks dominating this one, so I’ll go to the full game, but the half is also a strong spot.
Potential Prop Add: Terry Rozier OVER 23.5 Points (-105)
Graham is questionable leading up to this one, but assuming he’s ruled out again, I’ll make a small play on Rozier’s points. It could be a lower-scoring game against the Knicks, but the volume should be there. Terry’s played 40 minutes in consecutive games, scoring 27 against the Nets and 34 against the Blazers. While those are weaker defenses, we’ve seen Rozier hoist a combined 65 field goals in his past three games. He should continue to see plenty of looks.
A hot team that’s been getting healthy against a stumbling team without its best player feels like a good spot to capitalize on, despite laying a lot of points on the road. The Clips have ripped off eight of their past nine, going 7-1-1 ATS in that span. Paul George is playing his best basketball of the season, and Kawhi Leonard shook off some rust last game against the Timberwolves. Meanwhile, the Blazers are 2-5 SU and ATS in their past seven and are struggling to get past bad teams with Damian Lillard out of the lineup. Jusuf Nurkic will also be sidelined for this one. The Clippers have also won and covered the past five in this matchup, so it’s been one they’ve handled well in the past. Kawhi and PG in with Dame out just feels like too much for Portland to overcome.
