After taking the opening game of the series on Monday, the Seattle Mariners will try to make it two in a row against the team with the best record in the bigs, the Los Angeles Dodgers. Los Angeles continued to struggle against left-handed pitching on Monday, and will face another southpaw in Marco Gonzales ($9,200). They will counter with one of their own in Julio Urias ($10,600). Without further ado, let’s get into how to construct your DraftKings lineups for Tuesday night’s Showdown contest.

Seattle Mariners vs. Los Angeles Dodgers

Captain’s Picks

Justin Turner ($15,000 CP) - It’s hard not to be enamored with the Dodgers’ best hitter at the moment in Turner, who happens to be their best option against lefties as well. He’s hitting .450 with a pair of homers off of southpaws this season, and is coming off an 11-DKFP night in a game where the rest of his teammates really struggled to hit. L.A. might not have fun facing a lefty, but Turner should, and he should provide the highest upside of any hitter in the game.

Marco Gonzales ($13,800 CP) - Gonzales isn’t very good, but neither is Justus Sheffield, who stymied the Dodgers’ red-hot offense on Monday. The thing they have in common is that they’re both lefties, and that’s been the Dodgers’ kryptonite over the past two seasons. They rank 16th with a 107 wRC+ against lefties, representing a doable matchup for the extremely soft-tossing Gonzales. There’s obviously a lot of risk going against the Dodgers, but given their history against lefties this might be a shot worth taking in a GPP.

Value Plays

Ty France ($7,200) - The caveat here is that France may not play in this game after being removed from Monday’s contest when he was hit on the wrist by a pitch. That said, if he does play, he’s my favorite option on the slate. The price is simply too good on a guy who will hit second in the order for Seattle and has been one of its best destroyers of left-handed pitching. His numbers follow up a strong showing in 2020 with a 209 wRC+ on the young season. He’s hit all types of pitching in the early going, but this matchup in particular is appealing. If he doesn’t go, I’m probably paying up for Kyle Seager ($8,200) if I want someone to mash a lefty today.

Zach McKinstry ($6,400) - One of the few guys on the Dodgers who has hit lefties this year has been McKinstry, who has picked up eight hits in 21 at-bats within the split. He’s emerged as a nice little player for L.A., showing the ability to make contact at a high rate but also flashing some real pop in his bat. With Mookie Betts likely out of the lineup, McKinstry might move up a spot, and there’s even a chance Dave Robert might think about leading him off. He’s a nice play, but with the right spot in the lineup he might become a must-play.

Fades

Dylan Moore ($7,400) - I normally target a high-priced option here that I think will fail, but I feel obligated to tell you not to play Moore, given this ridiculous price tag. Sure, he’s been good against lefties, but he’s also been hitting eighth, so how many at-bats against a lefty can you realistically expect, especially when the team the Mariners are facing is the Dodgers, who are notorious for their quick hooks? He’s somehow more expensive than France and viable options like A.J. Pollock ($6,600). It’s just a no from me.

The Outcome

I think the Mariners should give the Dodgers another good charge here with a lefty on the mound, even if that lefty is Gonzales. Monday night was proof that the Dodgers’ struggles against lefties are real. That said, Urias is a different kind of matchup for the Mariners, so I’m not sure they break through the same way they did against Dustin May. This should be a low-scoring affair which for me is too close to call. I’ll take the Dodgers by a hair.
