The NBA is the Wild West right now given COVID-19 and the league’s health protocols, but that doesn’t mean there aren’t edges to be had. We sit at 46-38 on the season for article plays and look to cash some Thursday winners.
Follow along on Twitter — @julianedlow — for what we hope to be another great season, as some plays jump out late due to news, particularly in the player prop market. Here’s what jumps out to me on DraftKings Sportsbook.

Washington Wizards at Detroit Pistons: WAS -3 (-112)
Editor’s Note: Wizards SG Bradley Beal (hip) has been ruled out tonight vs. the Pistons.
This play depends on the status of Bradley Beal, who has missed the last two games with a hip injury and is questionable. Fortunately, we’ll have a play either way, but you’ll need to be quick to fire once the Beal news is announced. Washington is 4-1 in its last five against Detroit, including a 106-92 win last week in the game Beal was injured. If Beal is active, I want to fire on the -3 quickly. Detroit is also without some key role players and has a very thin lineup. If Beal is ruled out, we’ll immediately fire on Russell Westbrook O49.5 P/R/A. In the last two games without Beal, Russ has been posting historic triple-doubles. On Monday he finished with a 35-14-21 line (70 total) and on Tuesday Russ went for 22-15-14 (51 total). Look for that level of domination to continue against a soft Detroit defense.
Charlotte Hornets at Brooklyn Nets: CHA +2.5 (-109)
The Hornets have been playing well through LaMelo Ball’s departure from the lineup — now 4-1 straight up and 5-0 ATS over their last five games. Charlotte’s also thriving as an underdog this season, sitting at 18-14-1 ATS, and the most profitable underdog bet in the NBA on the moneyline. Brooklyn is on a 1-6 ATS skid, and has failed to cover its last five games at home. James Harden and Blake Griffin will join Kevin Durant on the sidelines for this one, as the Nets were pushed to the brink on Wednesday by the lowly Rockets. Brooklyn is just 3-5 ATS on the second night of a back-to-back, and being without Harden could loom large.
