Fantasy Basketball Picks: Top DraftKings NBA Snake DFS Strategy for March 17

Alex Hunter breaks down Wednesday’s DraftKings NBA Snake contest, which locks at 7:00 p.m. ET.

Wednesday night brings us a full ten-game NBA slate, and if you haven’t by now, you need to check out DraftKings’ new Snake Draft format! Below, we break down some of the best targets for tonight’s DraftKings NBA Snake slate.

Favorable Early Round Targets

Russell Westbrook, G, Washington Wizards

NBA Snake Rank: 6

The Wizards and Kings will go head-to-head tonight in Washington. Both of these clubs rank in the bottom five in defensive efficiency and the top-ten in points per game scored this season. In result, this contest presents an absurd 245.5 point O/U game total on DraftKings Sportsbook. This is the second largest total we have seen so far in 2020-21 and you know Westbrook is going to have a field day against this horrible Sacramento defense (dead last in defensive efficiency).

In his past ten starts, the former MVP is amassing 62.9 DKFP per game, and he provides a significant 9.9 more DKFP on his home floor this season. Westbrook is supplying 55.9 DKFP per game when at home and the total is above 235 points, and is a very strong bet to reach the triple-double bonus tonight.

De’Aaron Fox, G, Sacramento Kings

NBA Snake Rank: 12

On the other side of this mammoth shootout, Fox should tear this Wizards defense apart. Washington is allowing DKFP to opposing point guards at the second highest rate this season and they are also by far the fastest club in the NBA. As one of the quickest players in basketball, Fox thrives in up-tempo settings and he is scorching hot right now, contributing 54.25 DKFP per game in his last four.

The 23-year-old couldn’t ask for a better matchup than this and Fox should produce one of his biggest fantasy scores of the season on Wednesday night.

Early Round Player to Avoid

LaMelo Ball, G, Charlotte Hornets

NBA Snake Rank: 20

Trust me, Ball has my vote for rookie of the year, but the point guard is not worth a top-20 pick tonight. With the Hornets suddenly the healthiest they have been in months, Ball’s playing time has decreased to 28.3 minutes per game over his last three. All of these games were competitive affairs and Ball scored less than 30 DKFP in two of these three. For Wednesday night, Charlotte doesn’t have a single name on their injury report and they will be in Denver, taking on a Nuggets defense that is giving up the 9th least DKFP per game to opposing point guards.

All things considered, I don’t think Ball should on your radar unless you can get him outside the top-40 in snake drafts tonight.

Late Round Fliers:

Jaylen Brown, F/C, Boston Celtics

NBA Snake Rank: 31

The Celtics have stuck to a strict plan of sitting Kemba Walker out for one game of every back-to-back set this season, so it’s safe to assume the point guard will be inactive tonight, after playing 34 minutes in Tuesday’s loss to the Jazz. This opens the door for the remaining Celtics, specifically Brown and Jayson Tatum, to gain extra opportunities in this friendly spot against the Cavs (23rd in defensive efficiency). Brown’s usage rises by 1.7 percentage points with Walker off the floor and the first time All-Star is averaging 39.8 DKFP per game in the 16 full tilts he has played sans his point guard this year.

Back in January, Brown scored 43.3 DKFP in only 19.1 minutes of action against the Cavs, and the Celtic is a lock for over 40 DKFP again tonight.

Kevin Porter Jr., G, Houston Rockets

NBA Snake Rank: 46

Christian Wood (ankle) may return tonight, but the Rockets will be without John Wall (knee), Victor Oladipo (rest), Eric Gordon (groin), David Nwaba (wrist), Dante Exum (calf) and P.J. Tucker (seeking buyout/trade). Porter Jr. is the only remaining point guard on this roster, and no matter the outcome of this game, he should see a minimum of 35 minutes vs. the Warriors. Since being called up from the G-League four games ago, the 20-year-old has scored over 40 DKFP three times and will likely reach this feat again tonight.

The Warriors are a stout defensive group (7th in efficiency), but the volume Porter Jr. will obtain tonight eliminates any concerns we should have with this matchup.

Will Barton, F/C, Denver Nuggets

NBA Snake Rank: 77

In their past three, the Nuggets have been shorthanded in their backcourt, with both Gary Harris (thigh) and Monte Morris (quad) out. In their absences, Barton has been the main beneficiary, generating 37.75 DKFP per game. The primary reason for this success has been the upgrade in playing time, with Barton averaging 35.3 minutes per game for these past three, which is a noteworthy bump from the 30.3 minutes per game he garnered in his previous ten.

As expected, Morris and Harris have already been ruled out ahead of tonight’s matchup vs. the Hornets, which possesses a 231 point O/U game total on DraftKings Sportsbook. The minutes will be large for Barton in this solid setting and I would be ecstatic if I got him anywhere near his low pre-draft ranking.
