Alex Hunter breaks down Friday’s DraftKings NBA Snake contest, which locks at 7:00 p.m. ET.

NBA: Brooklyn Nets at Cleveland Cavaliers Ken Blaze-USA TODAY Sports

On Friday, barring any postponements, we should see nine NBA games tonight, and if you haven’t by now, you need to check out DraftKings’ new Snake Draft format! Below, we break down some of the best targets for tonight’s DraftKings NBA Snake slate.

Big Trey Payday

Opt-in before the start of the 4th quarter and if a 3-point shot is made in the final minute of Friday’s BOS vs. LAC game, you get an entry to a $100K contest on Wednesday, 2/10! See the DraftKings Big Trey Payday page for more details!

Favorable Early Round Targets

James Harden, G, Brooklyn Nets

NBA Snake Rank: 2

The highest O/U game total of Friday night’s nine-game slate goes to the Nets vs the Raptors. This total sits an absurd 243 points on the DraftKings Sportsbook and the spread is also tight with Brooklyn only favored by 4.5 points. You’re going to want some exposure to this contest and Harden is without question the top target from this shootout.

In Tuesday’s win against the Clippers, Harden recorded 63.25 DKFP across a team-high 43 minutes. The Beard is now amassing 65.6 DKFP per game over his last three, leading Brooklyn with and 1.45 DKFP per minute during this time. Additionally, he has been an outstanding playmaker for the Nets, averaging a team-high 40.9% assist percentage and tallying seven double-doubles in eight starts since being acquired by the club. Harden is guaranteed to hit the DraftKings’ double-double bonus on Friday and a triple-double certainly isn’t out of the question. In the four games totals over 235 points he has suited up for this season, the 31-year-old is producing 59.4 DKFP per game.

Nikola Vucevic, F/C, Orlando Magic

NBA Snake Rank: 13

With Aaron Gordon (ankle) out Tuesday, Vucevic stepped up and delivered 51 DKFP against the Raptors. Gordon will be out for at least a few weeks, adding to a Magic injury list that includes guards Markelle Fultz (knee) and Michael Carter-Williams (foot). When we take these three key players out of the equation, Vucevic’s usage increases to a team-high 32% this season. Tuesday night was the third full contest Orlando has played without these three in 2020-21, and Vucevic is averaging 45.2 DKFP per game on those occasions, which is also a team high.

Friday night, the Magic will host the Bulls, who rank 25th in defensive efficiency this season. As of late, they have been extremely weak against centers, allowing the 5th most DKFP per game to the position over their last five. In three meetings against Chicago last season, Vucevic topped 50 DKFP twice, and I fully expect him to do so again this evening.

Early Round Player to Avoid

Chris Paul, G, Phoenix Suns

NBA Snake Rank: 21

Paul’s pre-draft ranking is just too high with a healthy Devin Booker in the lineup for the Suns. The 35-year-old had a strong four-game stretch with Booker out in late January, scoring 47.1 DKFP per game with a 30.2% usage rate, but his numbers have dropped significantly when the shooting guard has been active. In the 16 games Paul has played alongside Booker this season, he has only seen a 20.3% usage rate and supplied 23 DKFP.

These are extremely dramatic splits for the veteran and it’s hard to imagine Paul breaking the trend tonight in this low total vs. the Pistons (215.5 O/U on the DraftKings Sportsbook).

Late Round Fliers

Norman Powell, F/C, Toronto Raptors

NBA Snake Rank: 41

Powell has started in five straight for the Raptors and been absolutely outstanding, generating 37.1 DKFP per game. He has scored at least 20 points in each of these games and the 27-year-old will maintain his starting status Friday with OG Anunoby (calf) out. With the power forward absent, Powell has obtained a 23% usage rate and collected 1.13 DKFP per minute.

Quite frankly, he’s been so effective with the first unit that it’s going to be very difficult to move Powell back to the bench even when Anunoby is ready to return, and there’s no way this terrible Nets’ defense slows him down Friday. In their last ten, Brooklyn has been the 2nd worst rated defensive team in the NBA and Powell has a ceiling well over 40 DKFP tonight.

Darius Bazley, F/C, Oklahoma City Thunder

NBA Snake Rank: 67

Tonight, the Thunder will be missing George Hill (thumb), Lu Dort (knee) and most importantly, Shia Gilgeous-Alexander (knee). Dort was the only one of these three who was active Wednesday, but he injured his knee early and didn’t return after only nine minutes. With OKC depleted, Bazley rose to the occasion and notched an 18/12 double-double of 41.5 DKFP in the 104-87 defeat over the Rockets.

The most compelling part of his stat line was that the 20-year-old reached a season-high 34.2 minutes, and he should stay above 30 minutes again tonight in a dream matchup against the Wolves. With Karl-Anthony Towns (COVID-19) still away from the team, Minnesota has been getting destroyed by opposing front-courts every night. In their last three, they have surrendered 62.3 rebounds and 59.3 points in the paint per game, both of which are league-highs. This is a prime opportunity for Bazley to provide his second consecutive double-double and he would be a steal at his current snake draft ranking.

Bobby Portis, F/C, Milwaukee Bucks

NBA Snake Rank: 78

If participating in a large snake draft for Friday night and looking for a sleeper pick that brings upside in the final few rounds, look no further than Portis. He has eclipsed 40 DKFP in back-to-back contests and the one common trend is that the Bucks easily won both of these games. Their average margin of victory has been 24 points and Friday night is setting up for another blowout win. Per the DraftKings Sportsbook, the Bucks are favored by 11.5 points against the Cavs, making them the biggest favorites of the night.

This will be the ninth time that Milwaukee has been favored by double digits this season and Portis is producing 31.4 DKFP per game across the first eight, including five showings of at least 30 DKFP. As a reserve, his floor isn't the safest, but Portis should be available much later than his pre-draft ranking and I love gambling on the high upside forward tonight.
