Denver Nuggets vs. Portland Trail Blazers

Captain’s Pick

Nikola Jokic ($19,200 CP): Whenever the Nuggets are part of a Showdown contest, Jokic has to be considered among the top options for the Captain’s spot. He has put his name firmly in the league’s MVP race, averaging 26.6 points, 11.1 rebounds, 8.5 assists and 1.7 steals. He is coming off a couple of quiet offensive performances in which he scored 16 and 15 points, respectively, but in one of those contests, he recorded 12 rebounds, 10 assists, four steals and a block. In the other, he had 10 rebounds, six assists and three steals. His ability to contribute in so many areas leaves him with a tremendously high floor.

Damian Lillard ($18,600 CP): Injuries to CJ McCollum (foot) and Jusuf Nurkic (wrist) have forced Lillard to be even more aggressive offensively. He’s certainly been up to the task, averaging 31.6 points, 3.9 rebounds, 8.8 assists and 1.1 steals across 16 games since McCollum went down. With his 32.6 percent usage rate ranking as the fifth-highest mark in the league, not much of an argument needs to be made for putting Lillard in this key spot in your DraftKings DFS lineup.

UTIL Plays

Jamal Murray ($10,200): As far as secondary options go, there aren’t a ton of appealing ones considering all of the injuries that these two teams are dealing with. Murray has been a bit inconsistent this season, which might make him too risky to deploy in the Captain’s spot. However, he still makes for a great option in a utility spot given that he has scored at least 45 DKFP in four straight games. It should also help his cause that the Blazers have the second-worst defensive rating in the league.

Facundo Campazzo ($5,000): Playing time has generally been difficult for Campazzo to come by given that he is only averaging 15 minutes per game for the season. However, injuries have resulted in him logging at least 25 minutes in five straight contests. During that stretch, he scored at least 20 DKFP each time. Gary Harris (thigh) is still out, which means that Campazzo should once again be in line for an increased role.

Zeke Nnaji ($2,200): If you want to roll with two out of the three of Jokic, Lillard and Murray, adding someone like Nnaji can help balance out your budget. He started with Paul Millsap (knee) and JaMychal Green (shoulder) out Monday against the Hawks and scored 11.8 DKFP across 30 minutes. His five shot attempts in that contest indicate that his upside isn’t all that high, even in a starting role. However, if he can approach 30 minutes with Millsap and Green out again, he can still provide value overall.

Derrick Jones Jr. ($6,400): Jones has been starting for the Blazers and he’s averaging a career-high 27 minutes per game. The problem is, he only has a 12 percent usage rate. That would actually be his lowest mark since his rookie season. Considering his salary doesn’t come at much of a discount, his limited upside might not be worth the hindrance that adding him could place on your budget.

The Outcome

The Blazers have actually been a good road team this season, posting a 10-6 record there, compared to 8-6 at home. They are also 7-3 across their last 10 games, while the Nuggets are just 4-6 across their last 10 contests. This could end up being a close contest, but with Murray heating up to go along with Jokic’s superb play, don’t be surprised if the Nuggets emerge victorious.

Final Score: Nuggets 118, Trail Blazers 114
