NBA Best Bets: Basketball Picks, Predictions, Odds to Consider on DraftKings Sportsbook for February 22

Julian Edlow gives his best bets on DraftKings Sportsbook for Monday’s NBA betting card.

The NBA is the Wild West right now given COVID-19 and the league’s health protocols, but that doesn’t mean there aren’t edges to be had. We sit at 39-31 on the season for article plays, following a 4-2 week. Here are some trends and props that stand out on Monday.

Follow along on Twitter — @julianedlowfor what we hope to be another great season, as some plays jump out late due to news, particularly in the player prop market. Here’s what jumps out to me on DraftKings Sportsbook.

Chicago Bulls at Houston Rockets: Jae’Sean Tate OVER 12.5 points (-121)

Tate’s been on a roll recently, and with both Christian Wood and DeMarcus Cousins out of the lineup, there’s only so many options Houston can turn to in the frontcourt. On top of that, Victor Oladipo’s scoring will remain out of the rotation, leaving shots for Tate. He’s played at least 33 minutes in three of his last four games, attempting 10-plus field goals in each game. Tate’s gone over 12.5 points in five of his last six games, and is averaging 18.5 points in 37 minutes per contest over his last two. The Bulls are allowing 115.3 points per game, which ranks as the fourth-worst mark in the NBA.

Chicago Bulls at Houston Rockets: CHI 1Q (-115)

I put out a new article on the DK Playbook today that provides trends and analysis on each matchup in the NBA, and I’m going to fire on a couple. The Bulls are at least a solid first quarter team, going 8-6 1Q ATS on the road and 17-12 1Q ATS overall. Zach LaVine is in a groove right now and Wendell Carter Jr. is back from injury, working in Chicago’s favor, but this is more of a Houston fade. The Rockets will be without Christian Wood, Victor Oladipo and DeMarcus Cousins, as mentioned. They’ve been getting out to awful starts recently, going 3-7 1Q ATS over their last 10, and even worse starts at home all season — 2-9 1Q ATS.

Charlotte Hornets at Utah Jazz: CHA 1Q +4 (-109)

The Hornets have been consistently underpriced this season, actually winning half their games as an underdog — 11-11 straight up as a dog. Utah’s obviously one of the hottest teams in the NBA, but has gotten off to some slow starts during this streak. Charlotte’s on an 8-2 1Q ATS run, while the Jazz are just 4-6 1Q ATS, and we’re catching quite a few points here for a quarter. Despite losing by 17 points when these two teams played earlier this month, the Hornets actually led by a bucket at the end of the first quarter.
